Bananas and Blow
Ween Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sancho brought a message from the Fat Man
Sorry, boy, to leave you high and dry
But I went to see my mom in Ensenada
And I left a little something to help the time go by
Just a little something to help to keep you high

Bananas & Blow (oh - oh), Bananas & Blow
Stuck in my cabana, living on Bananas & Blow

Now the rainy season reminds me of Maria
The way she danced, the color of her hair
Now I'm locked inside a stall at the cantina
Eating the bananas and the cocaine off the mirror
Looking for a ticket to take me away from here

Bananas & Blow (oh - oh), Bananas & Blow
Stuck in my cabana, living on Bananas & Blow

(guitar solo)

Bananas & Blow (oh - oh), Bananas & Blow
Stuck in my cabana, living on Bananas & Blow

Bananas & Blow (oh - oh), Bananas & Blow
Stuck in my cabana, living on Bananas & Blow

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Ween's song Bananas and Blow are a playful and somewhat nonsensical tale of being stuck in a tropical paradise with not much to do but consume bananas and cocaine. The first verse introduces Sancho, who brings a message from the Fat Man (who is likely a drug dealer or some similarly shady character). The Fat Man has left something behind to help pass the time, which turns out to be bananas and cocaine. The chorus repeats the phrase "Bananas & Blow" as a sort of mantra, emphasizing the drug use that is central to the story.

The second verse takes a nostalgic turn, with the singer reminiscing about a woman named Maria and the way she danced. However, he is currently trapped in a cantina stall, consuming bananas and cocaine off a mirror in order to pass the time. He longs for a way out of his current situation, expressed in the line "Looking for a ticket to take me away from here." The chorus repeats twice more to close out the song, with a guitar solo in the middle.

Overall, Bananas and Blow is a light and humorous song that seems to poke fun at the idea of a hedonistic existence in a tropical paradise. The lyrics are filled with absurd images and playful wordplay, suggesting that the singer is not taking himself too seriously. Despite the drug use being a central theme, the tone of the song remains lighthearted and carefree.

This honestly sounds like something you would hear on a sitcom Like the dad goes on vacation to the Bahamas and he tells his kids it's an "important business trip" and while he's gone the kids mess something up and call him and he's on the beach sipping a margarita and he's like "KIDS I CAN'T TALK RIGHT NOW I'M IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY IMPORTANT MEETING" and this song is playing the whole time
