1. WEEP, also known as Doc Hammer's Weep is an American rock band from New York City whose music combines elements of shoegazing, post-punk and synthpop. Formed in 2008 by singer and guitarist Doc Hammer, formerly of Requiem in White and Mors Syphilitica, the band's lineup also includes Fred Macaraeg on bass guitar, Alex Dziena on keyboards, and Bill Kovalcik on drums.

Their debut EP Never Ever was released in 2008, followed in 2010 by the full-length album Worn Thin and a remix EP, 6 Interpretations.
In January 2011 WEEP released a digital single for Lay There and Drown and The Hole, two songs from Never Ever that Hammer remixed, remastered, and re-recorded some vocal parts for. The following month, on Valentine's Day, the band gave away a free music download of a cover version of Bauhaus' 1981 single The Passion of Lovers.

WEEP's music has been described as dark and expansive, with "shimmering guitars and spacy synthesizers". Hammer's singing voice has been noted for its gravelly, robotic qualities which provide a counterpoint to the lush song arrangements. Critics have compared the band to a number of post-punk, alternative rock, and shoegaze acts of the 1980s and 1990s.

The lyrics of Weep's song Let Me in mirror a feeling of waiting, where the only thing that would make the waiting worth it is the arrival of the person being waited for. The first verse makes it clear that the weather is a downer for the singer and that the rain is not helping their mood. However, despite the bleak feeling, the singer is ready to wait forever to speak to the person they are waiting for. Eliza's character was a difficult one to play. It had so many nuances. She had to envoke sympathy as well as being annoying at times. She also had to be poignant and biting with her words at times. Her story is a tragedy. Read the book. I think Adepero was great in the role.

In a way, I can't blame Solomon for telling Eliza to stop crying. She's been crying for days right near him and he can't take it anymore. It's also because hearing someone cry doesn't make it any easier on him while he's still holding to hope. But I also can't blame Eliza for telling Solomon that she needs to weep for her children. I'm going to explain some of the differences. Eliza's children were taken away from her and they were sold into slavery. She feels like a huge failure and I totally understand how a mother feels. In Solomon's case, his wife and his children were not taken from him and sold into slavery. I can see why he isn't crying. But since Eliza's children were taken from her, I really can't blame her for her painful loss. It badly distresses her that her children are not free and she feels like she failed them.

I hear a lot of people talking about how she didn't do a good job acting this out like she should have been more forceful. This actress is playing a woman who has never had to be "hard" before, as she had her previous master's favour. Also she has been crying for days! She is spent! I don't expect her to shout at Solomon through all that cry, I have seen this despondent attitude way more often after a tragedy. I find it verrry believable. Kudos to this actress who is not mentioned nearly enough.

I’m reading the book now and Solomon said he has seen mothers bury their children, but never has he witnessed such unimaginable agony and mourning from Eliza when her daughter was taken from her. He said he would never ever forget that moment - unfathomable grief that words could not describe. He wanted to cry but knew it would only add to the situation. The book is so much more brutal than the movie. The maternal instinct within a mother for her children is one of the most powerful forces within a human being - to have both her beautiful children forcibly taken from her in such a cold blooded sickening manner is incomprehensible. To live their lives of pain, torture and abuse until their death is one of the most harrowing thoughts one could imagine. All this because of a skin tone and a superiority complex. Absolutely baffling to me. Slave trade was around for years and years but the transatlantic slave trade was the most brutal, barbaric of any form of slavery known to

Still, the richest man known in history was an African king whose wealth was based on the enslavement of Western Africa and he's being promoted as a good anti-colonization leader in a recent Hollywood film.
The Ottomans enslaved Africa and Europe for centuries before the Europeans even put a foot outside of Europe and after they began the decolonization processes but they used to castrate the slaves and the children they had with them so there are not descendants today to behold this legacy in popular culture.
In the past century alone, China, Korea and Japan enslaved dozens of millions of people between each other at a scale the Europeans could never achieved in their vast colonies.

Not to mention, such passages like the one you reference are found in Paul's letters. Meaning they were not intended to be curated in the bible, but they were collected and made to stand with scripture. Context is key in Paul's letters, as they were responses to letters he received from people in his travels. Roman slavery was not encouraged or considered just, but the purpose of Paul's letters was to encourage slaves to continue living by God's word by acting as examples of Christ. Christ allowed himself to be tortured and killed, but that does not mean torturing and killing people is condoned. A cruel slave owner or any man who imposes himself over others as God is a sinner, but that does not mean slaves should cease to strive to live righteously. There is a reason two of the early popes were former slaves, Pope Pius I and Pope Callixtus I.

During the purge slaves thought they had it better in Egypt but they didn’t see that God was humbling them for what he had in store for them. The Promise Land, this land was filled with milk and honey (milk and honey was a reference for resources). They had land for as far as the eye can see. They who made it lived like Kings and Queens.
So if somebody uses the Bible to condone slavery they not a Christian. The bible tells slaves to obey they masters because vengeance is for the Lord to take care of. 12 Years a Slave captured the nature and evil of slavery and its effect on the victims. This scene powerfully captures a window into the past from the perspective of the victims. The horrific emotional trauma, the theft of not only their freedom but their work, their talents, their very lives. 12 years a slave is a very important film and helped me gain a deeper understanding of that evil. I grew from this film, I’m sure many of us did.

The actress's dramatisation of the state of sorrow, shows a state after all major sorrow has been virtually exhausted. From her numbness and depression of having her children forcefully snatched away and marketed to be sold, to a state of questioning and conversation about her maternalism.

Can you imagine how much anguish Eliza is in. Bless her poor soul, She died of heartbreak and yet it's still nothing compared to the agony that Patsy endured. Ford was a decent man, but He was still a slaver. And any man who does that certainly cannot be called a good man. Eliza was right. I do not have any children i do however have a 25 years old niece and a 19 years old nephew (My big sister children) who i very much love & care for who i have been very extremely close to since they were born and i would have been devastated if they were taken away when they were babies or children, i feel her pain. Chiwetel did a good job the character Eliza was a woman who was exhausted from weeping over her children she lost in the slave trade.

I remember watching the movie for the first time. My only problem with the movie was this scene where the differences in the acting are too stark for me to comfortably watch. Chiwetel is delivering an Oscar nomination worthy portrayal of Solomon, while the actress is not as believable as her character. I didn't believe the crying and I thought the line delivery is weak. No disrespect to the actress. According to IMDB, she is trained and has plenty of experience, so in this case, perhaps the director should have directed her to do something different. I don't know anything about acting, but I would imagine it would be the director's responsibility to help the actor get in touch with the character.

Solomon's children were still free. The lady's children were captured and sold separately from her.

Matthew won portraying an AIDS victim..lost over 40 pounds, same like Tom Hanks did when Tom hanks played an AIDS victim in 1992 "Philadelphia." Seems like the Academy had a difficult choice to make between Chewitel and Matthew this year but Matthew ultimately won in the best actor category.

No doubt that somewhere in my ancestors they'll be the slavery "business". But I know my grandmother's great great grandfather was William Wilberforce of Hull UK. He helped at least bring an end to slavery in the UK. But it's a very small token.
Makes little difference really to how I feel.
if I hang my head in shame, if only within, it does not change what happened.
if I should elllequently remind others of our ancestors less discussed endeavours, that would at least be a start.

I really don't understand why this scene didn't make sense or wasn't a very good performance to some people. Only two minutes long. Doesn't seem like it takes a lot to understand what is happening. This is good stuff.
