Let Me
Weep Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

If the rain would let up
Moments wouldn't seem bleak

If it takes forever
I will wait to speak

Here in my pocket
Written words to say

So I'll unfold it
And Words will wash away

Waiting for you
Waiting for you to let me down
Let me down

A winter wave sent
Chills inside my heart

And heavens waters
Wanted us apart

I told myself the rain
Washed down your face

But tears and rain are
Equal in their grace

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Weep's song Let Me in mirror a feeling of waiting, where the only thing that would make the waiting worth it is the arrival of the person being waited for. The first verse makes it clear that the weather is a downer for the singer and that the rain is not helping their mood. However, despite the bleak feeling, the singer is ready to wait forever to speak to the person they are waiting for. The second verse seems to speak to a past event where something caused a rift between the singer and the person they are waiting for. The rain is again a symbol for the hardships between the two of them. However, the singer's thoughts of the person they are waiting for are positive as they believe that even though the rain and tears are evocative of loss and sadness, they are also equal in their grace and beauty.

The chorus solidifies the idea that the singer is aware of the potential let down of the person they are waiting for. They seem to be aware that their hopes may not come to fruition, and they will be let down. However, in a way, they seem to be okay with this prospect as they wait for someone they value a lot. The lyrics seem to be about how the singer is willing to wait through tough times, their own uncertainty, and even let down to be with this other person. The words are cryptic but hold within them a palpable sense of yearning and hope.

"I have done many dishonourable things to survive and for all of them I have ended up here, no better off than if I had stood up for myself."

No truer words have been spoken.

Eliza's character was a difficult one to play. It had so many nuances. She had to envoke sympathy as well as being annoying at times. She also had to be poignant and biting with her words at times. Her story is a tragedy. Read the book. I think Adepero was great in the role.
