Chicken
Weeping Tile Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Bus fare, no luck
Are we there
Where the fuck are we?
Puerile, hapless
Going to a strapless party
Checkin' your toes for leaches
Checkin' your hair for lice
Blue sandals wide beaches
It's the heat that makes it
Feel so nice

You got it all over your fingers
I wanna park it with the
Blue rinse midway swingers
Playing under the tent at the point
At the end with the chips that you get
That you haven't bet
I'm not ready for it yet

The night is a wave of the day
Makin' way for romance
Lathered in cream at the scene
Of a perfect light
Checkin your toes for leaches
Checkin your hair for lice
Blue sandals, wide beaches
It's the heat the makes
It feel so nice

You got it all over your fingers
I wanna park it with the
Blue rinse midway swingers
Playing under the tent at the point
And the end with the chips that you get
For a free chicken dinner bet
I'm not ready for it yet
I'm not ready for it yet

You got it all over your fingers
I wanna pack it with the
Blue rinse midway swingers
Playing under the tent at the point
And the end with the chips that they get
For a free chicken dinner bet
I'm not ready for it yet
I'm not ready for it yet
I'm not ready for it

I'm not ready for it
I'm not ready for it yet

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Weeping Tile's song "Chicken" are quite abstract, as they describe a sequence of events that are difficult to piece together. The song begins with a sense of aimlessness and confusion, as the singer wonders where they are and laments their lack of luck. The imagery is quite vivid, with mentions of leeches, lice, and blue sandals.

As the song unfolds, it becomes clear that the singer is headed to a party of some sort - specifically, a strapless party, which could suggest some degree of revelry or debauchery. There are references to midway swingers and chips that you get for a free chicken dinner bet, which gives the impression of a carnival or fair. The overall tone is dreamlike and disorienting, with the refrain "I'm not ready for it yet" suggesting a hesitant or uncertain attitude.

One possible interpretation of the lyrics is that the singer is feeling overwhelmed and out of their element, perhaps grappling with personal insecurities or anxieties. The party and carnival imagery could represent a desire for escapism or distraction from real-life problems. Overall, the lyrics to "Chicken" evoke a sense of disconnection and confusion, but with moments of vivid sensory experience and whimsical imagery.

LOVED this band in 1997!! I remember walking out of the Bloor Cinema in Toronto after seeing a film, and walking across the street to Lee’s Palace where Weeping Tile was in the midst of their show. I remember they were doing a cover of the Beastie Boys, Sabotage, and it was honestly spot on! I bought their album, Valentino on cd in the days to follow, and listened to it endlessly. South of Me was my favorite song on that album.

Miya

my dad was on drums! although for sabotage they all used to switch instruments.
