I Do
Weezer Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

All the times you came
I should've ran away

You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me

And the games you played
Were meant to lead me on

You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me
Always, ooh always
I do

You told me that you'd always love me
You told me that you'd always love me
Always, ooh always
I do

Never more again
Will I believe the sun

Overall Meaning

These lyrics to Weezer's song "I Do" convey a feeling of regret and betrayal. The singer is looking back on a relationship with someone who they trusted, but who ended up playing games with them. The repeated lines of "You told me that you'd always love me" serve to emphasize the singer's sense of betrayal, as if they believed in those promises and now feel foolish for doing so. The opening lines of "All the times you came, I should've ran away" hint at a feeling of being trapped in the relationship, knowing on some level that it was unhealthy but feeling unable to escape.

Throughout the rest of the song, the singer is grappling with the aftermath of the relationship. They seem to be saying that they will never again trust someone who promises them the world, or believe in anything without evidence to back it up. The repeated line of "I do" at the end could be interpreted a few different ways - it could be seen as the singer resigning themselves to their fate, or as a kind of rebuke to the person who betrayed them ("You told me you'd love me always - I do...but you don't"). Overall, the song is a poignant exploration of the pain of betrayal and the difficulty of moving on from a relationship.

@mcseas

hell yes, still get goosebumps thinking about my first weezer concert. think i was a jr in high school when this album came out. had almost been 5 years since we got anything from Weezer. A group of us went up to San Francisco and I remember they opened with this right into Jonas like you said and we were losing it. Top 2 of my concert memories growing up

@Shaydiggity

@TokenChineseGuy

feels are real with this song

@09philj

There are two correct ways to end an album: a climax or an epilogue. This is the latter, and it's great.

@AllN1TE

Hmm...this was a B-side on the Hash Pipe single. Not a part of the actual album. Although there is a version of Green that includes the bonus tracks.

@aallbbeerrttggaarrcc

You're correct, mate.

@Songguy1985

I truly wish they would have turned this into an epic.

@JBJones66

This song slays me.
