The First Noel
Weezer (Holiday) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The first Noel the angel did say
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep
On a cold winter's night that was so deep

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel
And they looked up and saw a star
Shining in the east beyond them far
And to the earth it gave great light
And so it continued both day and night

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel
Born is the King of Israel

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel

Born is the King of Israel
Born is the King of Israel

Overall Meaning

The First Noel by Weezer is a beautiful rendition of the traditional Christmas carol. The lyrics of the song tell the story of the first Christmas when the angels appeared to the shepherds in the fields and announced the birth of Baby Jesus. The first Noel refers to the news that the angel brought to the shepherds in the field. The angel instructed the shepherds to go to Bethlehem to see the newborn king.

The lyrics also describe the star that shone in the east, leading the wise men to the birthplace of Jesus. The star appeared both day and night, guiding the wise men to their destination. The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel" which means "Christmas" or "the birth of Jesus Christ." The song concludes with the proclamation that the King of Israel has been born.
