Confirmation
Westerman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Staring at a horse, got dead legs
It's got nothing going on
Wasting
Hours

Blame it on the establishment
So boring
Take me
Take me back

Don't you wonder why
Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it
Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it just won't work
Can I - can't understand it

Scrabble up the walls
Good job pinhead
So happy you were born
I just don't know anymore, but
We need to get ourselves back to that place you couldn't help, but

Oh don't you wonder why
Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it

Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it

Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it

Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it
Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it

Confirmation's easier
When you don't think so much about it

Trying and it won't work
I still can't get my head around it

Overall Meaning

The song Confirmation by Westerman seems to be a commentary on the difficulty of finding purpose and satisfaction in a society that is overwhelming and oppressive. The opening lines "Staring at a horse, got dead legs, It's got nothing going on, Wasting, Hours" suggest a feeling of boredom and ennui, as though the singer is stuck in a rut and unable to find meaningful activity to occupy their time. They blame this sense of aimlessness on "the establishment", which is depicted as stultifying and tedious.

The refrain "Confirmation's easier when you don't think so much about it" seems to suggest that the singer is struggling to find a sense of direction or purpose in their life, but that there is some wisdom to be gained by giving up the quest for answers and simply accepting things as they are. The line "Trying and it won't work, I still can't get my head around it" repeats multiple times throughout the song, emphasizing the sense of frustration and confusion that the singer feels in trying to make sense of their existence.

The song ends on a somewhat ambiguous note, with the singer expressing a desire to "get ourselves back to that place you couldn't help, but", which could be interpreted as a call to return to a simpler, more innocent time before the pressures of society took hold. Overall, the song seems to be a reflection of the struggle to find meaning and purpose in a world that can seem overwhelming and suffocating.

i feel like sometimes artists don't generally conceive the effect their song can have on a person.

if you guys are ever reading this by chance, just wanna let you know that this song really speaks to me and i appreciate that you made it. if you never did, i'd never get to experience the energy that you created with it. it's a really comforting track, so cheers fellas

It's an unreal sound. Perfection

This song describes so well the futility of chasing "the zone", or "the state of flow". Paradoxically, you can only get in "the zone" by not obsessing about it. "We need to get ourselves back to that place you couldn't help but" - brilliant. This song might very well have been written while in the zone... Alan Parson's Project comes to mind as an influence. Great songwriting. Also, great MTV-era style video.
