Turn Away
Wet Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

First light, new skin, bring amber dawn
Like a warning
Close my eyes so I won't see what I've done wrong
Turn away, turn away when you need me more, more
Regrets creep in, what have I done?
Oh, but you were leavin'

You were always, you were always leavin'
Now I'm gone, you come back
You come back to me believin'

So why'd you say nothing at all?
You leave me to figure out what went wrong
Goin' on and on 'bout nothing at all
Turn away, turn away when I need you more

Do you know how many times I've been you?
Been you
To someone who cares half as much as I do
And I do
Turn away, turn away, turn away when I need to
I needed to
Take one wrong step for I'm back to you
But all at once it comes back to me

You were always, you were always leavin'
Now I'm gone, you come back
You come back to me believing

So why'd you say nothing at all?
You leave me to figure out what went wrong
Goin' on and on 'bout nothing at all
Turn away, turn away when I need you more

And honestly, if I'm going off
We'll work through this just to write a song
Goin' on and on about nothin' at all
Turn away, turn away when I need you more

So honestly, if there's nothin' wrong
We worked it out just to write a song

Goin' on and on 'bout nothing at all
You turn away, turn away when I need you more

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Wet's song "Turn Away" depict a complicated relationship dynamic and the emotions that arise from it. The opening lines, "First light, new skin, bring amber dawn, Like a warning, Close my eyes so I won't see what I've done wrong," suggest a sense of regret and guilt. The singer is turning away, both literally and metaphorically, in order to avoid confronting their mistakes. However, they acknowledge that they are needed more by their partner, indicating a sense of abandonment.

The chorus emphasizes the theme of leaving, with the lines "You were always, you were always leaving, Now I'm gone, you come back, You come back to me believing." Here, the singer reflects on the recurring pattern of their partner leaving and then returning, only to be believed and trusted again. There is a feeling of frustration and confusion about their partner's lack of communication and inability to address the issues that have caused their relationship to falter.

The second verse shifts the perspective, with the singer expressing their own experience of being in a similar situation before. They question why their partner doesn't speak up and instead leaves them to figure out what went wrong. The repetition of "Turn away, turn away when I need you more" highlights the pain of being neglected and unsupported by someone they care about deeply.

Towards the end, there is a plea for honesty and a desire to work through the challenges, even if it means going in circles. The lines "So honestly, if there's nothin' wrong, We worked it out just to write a song, Goin' on and on 'bout nothing at all, You turn away, turn away when I need you more" convey a bittersweet longing for connection and understanding.

Overall, "Turn Away" explores themes of regret, abandonment, and the complex dynamics of a strained relationship. It delves into the frustrations that arise when communication breaks down and the longing for love and support.

i love them so much. they are so talented and deserve so much recognition, but i want wet to stay one of my special bands.

Lorenzo xx

xung hanna NO! They deserve greatness! I'm fucking tired of reading stuff like "I wish they remain my little secret forever". I think that's kind of cruel. They're good, and talented - a bit of success won't damage the quality of their music. Stop wishing your "favourite" artist to remain unrecognized, underground musicians, please. I'm begging you.

+Lorenzo xx i completely understand where youre coming from, but its always great for them to be successful but also yours. i suppose its just what people feel who are proud of a band that is 'theirs'

well some bands are perfectly fine with not being worldwide recognized. some may prefer to be recognized in their own scene. Like they can be recognized musicians in the underground scene. it just really depends on the bands goals and values I guess.
