Dread
When Prophets Fail Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Before they failed our lives were bright
Everyone's sorrows felt so light
That was what they told us
But then everything turned out all lies
Is it really them ruling us?
Or is it nothing but fear?
There is no prophet or leader for us
We have to fight or the end is near!
They will pull a trigger inside us
To a disease which is called "phobia".
We have to burst out, we have to fight
It is your fate in your hands!
Is it really them ruling us?
Or is it nothing but fear?
There is no prophet or leader for us
We have to fight or the end is near!
But as they go on
As they go on
Dark clouds will rise
Clouds will hide the sun
But as they go on
As they go on
The fear will break out
This dread will haunt us
Is it really them ruling us?
Or is it nothing but fear?
There is no prophet or leader for us
We have to fight or the end is near!
The dread will lead our minds
The dread will lead when your leader is gone
This war will come to us

It's only us who can save this world!
The Prophecy fails

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Dread" by When Prophets Fail describe a cautionary tale about the dangers of blindly trusting and following leaders or prophets, only to have them fail and reveal that they were lying all along. The first verse sets up the contrast between the bright and happy state of the world before the prophets failed, and the subsequent revelation that everything they told us was all lies. The chorus questions whether the leaders are really ruling us, or if it's just fear that keeps us under their control, and reminds us that we need to fight to prevent the end from being near.

The second verse uses the metaphor of a disease called "phobia" to describe how the leaders will manipulate and control us, and encourages us to burst out and fight against our oppressors. The pre-chorus warns that, as the leaders continue on their path, dark clouds will rise and hide the sun, but we must not succumb to fear, because the dread will lead our minds when the leader is gone. The final chorus repeats the call to action, emphasizing that we are the only ones who can save the world when the prophecy fails.

Overall, the lyrics suggest that blind faith in leaders, prophets or ideologies can ultimately lead to disappointment and disillusionment, and that it is up to us to take responsibility for our own lives and fight against oppression and fear.
