When Tigers Fight Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
That growing up did not mean selling out
I cannot believe you turned your back
On everything you said
How can you claim to be free?
When you have become a slave
To what you thought were your dreams
Those dreams are not for me
And you've got it all figured out
But I can't let go
Of what I know I'm about
Now you've grown old
And you've got it all figured out
But I can't let go
Of what I know I'm about
The song "Forsaken" by When Tigers Fight is a reflection on the idea of "selling out" and staying true to oneself. The lyricist made a promise to themselves not to sell out as they grow up but is disappointed by someone who they thought shared the same values. The person they reference has turned their back on everything they said and has become a slave to what they thought were their dreams. The lyricist questions how this person can claim to be free when they have sacrificed their beliefs for success. They are determined not to follow in their footsteps and continue to hold onto their own values and dreams.
The song's lyrics highlight the struggle many face in maintaining their authenticity in a world where success is often linked to conformity. It is a call to stay true to oneself despite the pressure to compromise for the sake of prosperity. By contrasting their own beliefs with those of someone who has "got it all figured out," the lyricist makes a statement about the price one might pay for success that requires the sacrifice of personal values. Ultimately, the song is a reminder to hold onto one's convictions and to never let go of what we know we're about.
