String Up
When Tigers Fight Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Holding on by the rope I will use to hang myself
No more words or false promises
I'm going to get it done
This time - this time I'll get it right
Wash the blood from your hands - you are guilty
I'll see you in hell
Let the sun light up those
It's not going to be alright
I will see you in hell
The lyrics to When Tigers Fight's song String Up spell out a narrative of someone who seems to have reached a dead end in their life. The person is in a state of desperation and has lost control of everything around them. They are holding on to a thin rope that is both an instrument for survival and a potential tool for suicide. The singer of the song is clearly aware that they are at the end of their rope and that there are no easy answers left. They are haunted by words and false promises, and the only way out is to "get it done." In essence, the song expresses an existential crisis that many people may face in their lowest moments.
The chorus of the song is particularly haunting, as the singer sings about washing the blood from their hands and confronting the person who they hold responsible for their predicament. They are determined to see it through to the end and are ready to die if necessary. There is a sense of futility and despair that permeates the song, which is underscored by the final words - "I will see you in hell." It is unclear who the addressee of these words is, but they suggest someone who has wronged the singer in a serious way.
