Forever
Whippersnapper Lyrics

The smiles have faded, dissatisfied,
But you won't betray it.
I don't want to leave,
But the world is waiting
And its hard to breathe
When you hear her say
To each other anymore
And it's harder
Everytime you go away
We never say forever
To each other anymore
And I wonder if
There's nothing left to say
I'm so confused
Bought a ring for
The wedding of broken glass
In a silver setting
Through a telephone
You can hear her
Sighing from far away.
We never say forever
To each other anymore
And it's harder
Everytime you go away
We never say forever
To each other anymore
And I wonder if
There's nothing left to say
I don't want to leave,
But the world is waiting
And its hard to breathe
When you hear her say
These lyrics tell the story of a couple who have grown apart and stopped saying "forever" to each other. The singer is dissatisfied and feels a stillness in the air when smiles have faded. Despite this, they do not want to leave but find it hard to breathe when they hear their partner say they will not be together forever. The chorus repeats the phrase "we never say forever to each other anymore" and expresses the difficulty of being separated and wondering if there is nothing left to say or do.
The line, "bought a ring for the wedding of broken glass in a silver setting," is a poetic way of describing a broken engagement or failed marriage. The singer bought an engagement ring, but it's now a symbol of the broken relationship, represented by the broken glass. The silver setting is a reminder of what used to be, and the fact that it's through a telephone suggests a distance between the two.
Overall, this song is about the difficulties of holding onto love when life gets in the way. It's about the pain of growing apart and the fear of not being able to hold onto what once seemed eternal.

This is the rare demo version which I like better because the vocal harmonies sound cooler.
