In a modest rent house in the small East Texas town of Elkhart, Texas, Cody Cannon and Cody Tate began to write music, only dreaming of the success that is sure to follow. They began to incorporate the talent and imagination of friend and guitarist John Jeffers. At that time, they called themselves Lucky Southern, though they had only three members. As time passed, with their inspiration mounting, they moved to Tyler, Texas. There they met up with Jeff Hogg, a mutual friend and drummer from Palestine, Texas, and Gary Brown, a bass guitarist who had grown up in Neches, Texas. They came together and came to be known as Whiskey Myers.
Soon, the group was playing private parties on flatbed trailers in small towns around East Texas. The sound they emitted was something more unique than anyone had expected. From their first show in Montalba, Texas, a young Whiskey Myers was hooked on performing, and the crowds were hooked on them. In the spring of 2007, they were given the opportunity to open for Roger Creager at Gator’s Bar and Grill in Gun Barrel City, Texas. The club owner was so impressed by their performance and the crowd that had come to the stage that he asked them to come back the next weekend to open for The Eli Young Band. From then on, popularity for the band began to swell. They were heard on live stages all over East Texas, in interviews on local radio stations, and seen on television giving live interviews. Suddenly it seemed that the whole region knew who Whiskey Myers was, and everyone was becoming familiar with their high energy twin guitars, soulful vocals, and unstoppable rhythm.
Whiskey Myers’ musical style was forged from several different genres of music from several different eras. The most obvious of these are the blues rock jam bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers Band, and Led Zeppelin. Whiskey Myers takes the blues rock genre and mixes it with modern day Texas Country such as Reckless Kelly, Randy Rogers, and Cross Canadian Ragweed to derive a new sound that is sure to take concert listeners on an atmospheric roller coaster. With a sound like no other and a stage presence that captivates anyone close enough to notice, a live concert performed by this young band is something that must be seen to be believed.
The Tyler area has been instrumental in the development of Whiskey Myers from a group of musicians to a band. As the group continues to expand its fan base, new listeners all over Texas are beginning to recognize their talent. They continue to engulf listeners with their sound, ensuring that the name Whiskey Myers is one that will be remembered for ages to come.

I been feelin' alright
It's just a couple of little ol' stitches
And my head's starting to feel just fine
And ain't nobody got time just to sit around
And worry about poor ol' me
I gotta build this house, got babies on the way, got mouths to feed
Go on and give it to me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on
I asked You once, if I can bear all the weight
Put the heavy on my shoulders nda see
I made a promise, I'm her mountain of stone
Won't be alone as long I can breath
You like to work in mysterious ways
Served me up a slice of G-O-D
I like a challenge so I better start ownin' up to what ya got in store for me
Go on and give it to me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on
Bloodline, it's in your last name
Daddy raised me the same way
That I'll do you one day
And I can handle a little pressure on me
Take the load off the feeble ones
And pass it my way
I got bills, got mouths to feed
Let's pack on and we'll see Lord
If You're bettin' on me (bettin' on me)
So go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on me
Go on ahead and put the heavy on
Ha, ha, ha
You put the heavy on me
Ha, ha, ha
You put the heavy on me
Ha, ha, ha (heavy, heavy, put it on me, go to put it on me)
The heavy on me
Ha, ha, ha (heavy, heavy, put it on me, go to put it on me)
You put the heavy on me
Ooh
The song "Heavy on Me" by Whiskey Myers explores the singer's perspective on dealing with the pressures and responsibilities of life, particularly in relation to his drinking habits. The opening lines acknowledge that people around him have expressed concern about his drinking, but he reassures them that he's been feeling fine. The "little ol' stitches" refer to minor issues he's facing, and his head starting to feel fine suggests that he's starting to find solutions to these problems.
The next verse reflects a conversation the singer has with a higher power, possibly God. He asks if he can bear the weight and challenges of life, essentially requesting to be given the heavy burden. He promises to be a stable, unchanging force ("a mountain of stone") as long as he can keep breathing. He acknowledges that God often works in mysterious ways, hinting at the challenges and obstacles that may lie ahead, but he sees them as opportunities to prove himself and rise above.
The following lines draw a parallel between the singer's upbringing and the responsibility he feels to pass on his values and strength to the next generation. He acknowledges that he can handle the pressure and willingly takes it on so that others who are weaker can be relieved. This reflects his sense of duty and his willingness to protect and support his loved ones. The reference to bills and mouths to feed implies the financial and emotional burdens he carries, but he is determined to face them head-on.
In the chorus, he pleads for the heavy burden to be placed on him, emphasizing his readiness and determination. The repetition of "go on ahead and put the heavy on me" reinforces his desire to take on any challenges that come his way. The final lines filled with laughter ("ha, ha, ha") suggest that, despite the weight he's carrying, he still finds a sense of humor and lightheartedness in his struggles.
Overall, "Heavy on Me" is a song about embracing responsibility and willingly taking on the burdens of life. The singer expresses his readiness to face challenges, asking for the heavy load to be placed on him. Through his perspective and determination, the song conveys a message of resilience and perseverance in the face of life's difficulties.
