Mr. Sanity
White Apple Tree Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The nights are cold
And you are right where you need to be
Some insignificant retreat
The spectrum of complacency
My televised transparency
The listless dreams of Sanity
I'll never let you go
Oh
The yellow cab
Your faithful hand
Calming my uncertainties
Of idiotic policies
The southwest sun
The ocean breeze
Should call for slightly shorter sleeves
A vibrant hue of Sanity
I'll never let you go
I'll never let you go
Oh
The lyrics within White Apple Tree's song "Mr. Sanity" convey a sense of dissatisfaction and disconnection within the singer's intimate relationship. The first lines, "The sex is gone, the nights are cold," indicate a perceived lack of passion and intimacy with their partner. However, the following lines provide a sense of acceptance and resignation, with the line "And you are right where you need to be" indicating a recognition that their partner is content with the current state of the relationship.
The lyrics "The spectrum of complacency, my televised transparency, the listless dreams of Sanity" suggest a feeling of stagnation and boredom in the singer's life. The idea of being "televised" speaks to a sense of being constantly watched or monitored, while "listless dreams" implies a lack of direction or purpose. Overall, the singer seems to be struggling with feelings of apathy and a lack of fulfillment in both their relationship and their life in general.
Despite these feelings, the chorus states "I'll never let you go, oh" indicating a commitment to their partner and perhaps a sense of fear or discomfort at the idea of being alone. The lyrics "The yellow cab, your faithful hand, calming my uncertainties" suggest that the singer relies on their partner for emotional comfort and stability, even if they are not completely satisfied with the relationship.
