I visited Egypt once, and it was the worst trip of my life. The amount of pressure and harassment is honestly unbearable, they think I’m some sort of a Sheikh or a prince once they know I’m from Arabia, which made me wear local clothes and try fitting in to avoid all that shit. I was relieved once I got to the airport, just to be approached by an airport worker who grabbed my luggage and skipped the whole line and checked my bags in, l knew what was coming. So I told him I had no money and I showed him my wallet, after a long argument, I had to get him off my ass and I gave him the last money I had. I genuinely was so close to a nervous breakdown once I boarded my plane and got the hell outta there.

@Freddy The Frog That is not true at all! I have been in Alanya twice and there you see virtually no crimes at all, or hustling. Yes, the shop owners will try to sell you stuff, most likely to tourist prices, if you do not haggle, but that is the worst I can say. I rented a bike both times, parked it outside in the middle of town at my hotels and were not even worried. Try to do that in for instance Spain or Italy and see, how quickly it would be gone!

I was in Egypt a couple of years ago and went on a pyramid tour where we met another guide to take us inside the pyramid. While inside the pyramid, the guide blocked the exit and would not let us leave until we tipped him. Luckily the first guide told us not to tip him because he was already paid from the main company. After about 5 minutes of telling him that we left our wallets on the tour bus, he finally walked us out. I was soo pissed when I got outside that I literally wanted to leave the pyramid tour and head to the airport to leave. And solo female travelers... if you decide to visit... please go with another person.

I have never heard about a single tourist even getting lost in such countries, but many Danes, including some of my former colleagues, did go to Sharm Al Sheikh for family vacation. In all truth, they never experienced anything bad, but they never left the resort either. Here in Denmark the authorities has even felt it necessary to warn Danish tourists in the media, that they should not even go to the beach in Sharm Al Sheikh unescorted at any times, because several tourists has been kidnapped right at the door steps at the high security resort hotels, where they stayed. Find me ONE example, where such a thing has ever happened in those countries, that you mention, or shut up!

My wife and I visited Egypt in January 2015 -- four days in Cairo, and three days in Luxor. It's amazing to me how things have changed in eight years. We experienced none of these kinds of issues, except for a couple of minor incidents. During our first day in Cairo while walking from our hotel (Nile Hilton) to the opera house, I was stopped by a guy in a car who claimed to be with the police. I'm guessing he wanted to shake me down for a bribe, but I acted like I was so stupid, he gave up and drove away. In the Valley of the Kings near Luxor, while on a guided tour, my wife defied instructions and took a photo inside one of the tombs. The guard made her pay a fine (it was about $5), but that was it -- he didn't even make her delete the picture from her iPhone.

When planning our trip, our biggest challenge was figuring out how to go from Egypt (the first stop on our four-country trip) to Israel. We ended up flying on EgyptAir to Sharm El-Shaikh and hiring a driver to take us north through the Sinai to Taba -- that's where we walked across the border and into Eilat, Israel. Our driver was a former Army intelligence officer, so he basically bluffed his way through a few checkpoints as we drove north -- not that we were doing anything illegal by making that journey. However, as is clearly illustrated in this video, there is an Egyptian mindset among authority figures that cause them to give everyone a hard time. We were lucky to have that particular driver, and you can be sure we tipped him generously when we exited his Mercedes at the Taba customs house.

Seeing this video makes me extremely glad we visited Egypt when we did, because I'm not sure I'd want to do that now.

When I first visited Egypt, I spent hours in the airport with my passport changing hands of different police officers yet no one was saying if there is any issue of any sort. I only understood why when I was travelling in Cairo. They make things difficult so you baksheesh them. Baksheesh is in the roots of Egyptian society.

@Zine dine Haouche Sorry bro, as a moroccan with andalusian blood i must say that you are incorrect; Andalusia was not that religious, the Sharia was applied only for poor people, while the sultans and the makhzen (the political class) were very corrupted and loved drinking haram and doing haram. This is why they lost miserably, if they followed Sharia (as they have done probably only at the beginnings), they would have survived. Egypt is the country to which I would never return again, even for the diving in a beautiful sea! I didn't fly with a bunch of cameras or any equipment for filming like you, guys, I wanted just to celebrate there the New Year with my family. My parents live in another country, Egypt was an opportunity to meet and spend time together. I didn't take a single stone from the beach or anything illegal, but I was searched at the airport, my suitcase was searched for a long time, in which there were gifts from my parents. They picked up paints, pens, pencils (I draw), and asked what is it? What is it for? I explained that it was a gift from my parents. They were digging into my underwear, smiling and giggling, demanding to give them pens! I refused (it was a matter of principle). We were already late for our flight. They said absolutely clearly: "If you want to pass the inspection, pay me 20 €." I know it's a small amount, but the question is why should I pay to pass the inspection if I haven't done anything??? I will never come there again.

I visited Egypt as a small child, and I remembered the trip fondly until I talked about it with my mom years later. I was like "Its so peaceful" and she looked at me in surprise and asked me what I remember. I told her about the pool and the hotel and the camel we rode for like ten minutes. She told me it was a nightmare to get in, and that it was peaceful simply because we where in a closed off hotel area for the entire trip. We literally never left the hotel after my parents realized whats going on there.

I'v been to Egypt before (for like 10-12 days) and i would say that every Egyptian i'v encountered there was a scammer in one form or another. Not just some random scammers by the Pyramids, but people in small shops, people on the street, people who pass you by on the traffic passes, people in the hotel, people on the beaches, people in super markets and even doctors in the hospital who where fine with corruption and stuff, don't even get me started on the police or security people (especially by the historic sites).

My advise is don't stop, don't talk to anybody if you don't have to and don't make eye contact with this people, just pass them by and once they see your not paying any attention they will move on to the next tourist, also don't go alone, stay in a group of at least 2 especially if you are in any of the big cities.

i dont mean to sound racist, this is just the truth the i'v seen and anybody from Europa that's planning to go there should be aware of this. The whole population knows your an outsider (especially if your white) and 99% would take advantage of you as soon as they are able to. This should absolutely not stop you from going there. As i think everybody should see the pyramids before they die.

Also Karnak temple complex and vally of the kings are epic sites and a must see if you are going there.

By the way, if people would love to see really old stuff and be surrounded by friendly and truly hospitable people all their vacation, look no further than Balkan! I do not mean to be smart or sarcastic here, by the way: I were in Croatia a couple of years ago, easily has as much history and architecture from ancient times present, much more beautiful nature, not to mention the women in Croatia: I went to cafes, where I seriously thought, that every single woman present in that cafe could be a model in Denmark! Why would people go to Egypt again? No corruption detected in Croatia either. My husband wanted to go to Egypt next year so I started my research. After watching your video I changed plans. We are not going to Egypt! Thank you so much for sharing. What a scary situation. We had a similar experience in Beijing airport few years ago. We have 2 kids and it was very scary, they took our passports for no reason and made us wait in a seating area for 3 hours with security, then finally walked us to the boarding gate and returned our passports. I was so happy to leave that country and have no plans to return!

I'm Egyptian and unfortunately everything you said is true.
My advice to anyone who wants to go is to not go to Cairo or giza because its going to be he'll no matter what you do.
If you really wanna go I'd suggest Horgada or Sharm elsheikh and only book a resort that literally has everything so that you would have the least amount of contact with anyone from outside the resort so you don't get scammed out of your money.
Lastly I don't think that the system (or no system) will ever change 😞

Yes, this is true. I’m from the U.K. and have visited Egypt many times and stayed in lovely resorts in Sharm-El-Sheikh. We did venture outside the resort, but were constantly harrsssed. Never again. The resort and service were always impeccable. Egyptian staff very helpful and kind. We had a really great stay. Would like to return to Sharm again - resort only😂😂

You're brave man. As much as it's painful for me to see Egypt in a bad light, I do believe that transparency is the only way forward. I have similar experiences when I go visit my family. I think that's what happens when you don't hire people based on their merit and qualifications. The system degrades very quickly.

I travelled to Egypt with my brother around 2006/2007 and remember thinking how great it is to see people from different cultures and religions get along. However a few years later everything boiled over and my perception now of most countries even when people of diverse views seem to get along is that I’m in no position to judge the real situation in a country. Only if you have grown up in a country do I believe you can have a greater appreciation of the undercurrents. I truly hope Egypt can pull itself together one day.

@Jka I do always believe there is hope. I travel to Jakarta about once a year and have seen with the right leadership that are focussed on improving the country a lot can change. With Jokowi as president in Indonesia both corruption as well as infrastructure and peoples standard of living have improved. Hopefully one day Egypt will have a good leader as well.

It's sad becouse people are just trying to survive. But they are too different in culture and make western countries especially (polite, more reserved with strangers, business and friends don't mix)

In eygpt tourists will rarely come back. I am Muslim and I feel quite uncomfortable here. Everyone is super friendly, but in the end everything comes back to businesses. $10 for a hotel night , and you will end up spending $100 usd a day.

I understand I am rich comapred to most of eygpt so I want to give back to the economy as a tourist and help my Muslim brothers. But comon guys, this is too much. Every single person (or most in tourists areas) has a agenda to make money. Egyptians need to make better businesses. Invest abroad and earn USD. And everyone should fix prices especially for tourists. Rise the price x2, x3 no problem. But please be transparent. I love and hate Egypt now. Our cultures are too apart, and I am ashamed a Muslim country isn't developing- due to this very reason.

I just recently returned from a 5-6 day trip to Egypt, and while my experience wasn't quite a bad as yours, it was only marginally better. While there we visited Cairo, Aswan, and Luxor. The corruption in their systems is almost surreal to behold. I was completely unprepared for it. Our guide was our only saving grace as she helped us avoid as many issues as possible. The trip was full of bribes and "tips" that we had to pay along the way just to move within the country. It wasn't just officials but a portion of the citizenry as well that had extortionary systems in place.

After enduring this for several days, and while preparing to leave the country, we almost ended up having to call the US Embassy in Cairo after we, a group of 11 US Citizens, were held for our "protection" for several hours under armed guard at the Cairo Airport until we paid the security chief at the airport to let us go 5 minutes up the road to our hotel to sleep for the 2 hours we had remaining before our flight departed. My summation: Egypt is historically beautiful, but systemically appalling.

I was in Egypt last week, and even though my stay was comparably pleasant overall, the proceedings at the airport when going back home were just ridiculous. Safety checks are over the top, and all your stuff gets scanned multiple times. Some people on my flight had to open their bags and present every single piece they carried (mind you: just regular tourists, so no crazy gear). They had laid out lists where you needed to enter your passport number by hand, but you could easily miss those and walk by. Finally, I entered my passport number in three different lists without knowing why or if I was even required to do so. But you better not mess around with their crazy rules. After I was finally through all the checks, just before the gate, there was an old Egyptian man with turban and whatnot, sitting on a plastic chair and requesting my passport (this was after the "official" passport inspection was already carried out). The thing is, these guys look in NO WAY professional, but rather like some guys from the street or salesmen in souvenir stores. As a tourist, you just have no clue if this is an official investigation or just some bullshit. He than scanned EVERY SINGLE PAGE of my passport, looked at all the stamps, and examined the Egyptian one with particular attention, as if it were some sort of fake. Then he finally handed it over, and I could leave. It's like they're putting on a show everywhere just for the sake of it. Absolutely makes no sense and is probably only to annoy the tourists. So yeah, I totally understand where you're coming from.

I took Egypt off any travel plans long ago. Everyone I’ve spoke to that had visited there had bad experiences. From elaborate scams by companies to the locals scamming tourists. I couldn’t imagine dealing with that and combining it with what you went through.

I totally agree with you. Something similar happened to me and my girlfriend and I've never felt safe there. Most of the people out of the hotel treat you awfully (they only care about your money and do whatever it takes to get some) and police are so scary, with no rules and no organisation. I will never go again, and it is sad because Egypt could be a great country, with beautiful places and interesting traditions. Some people are nice but if you are a tourist (or even if you are working sometimes) you are in danger, even when you should feel safe and protected.

I was damn glad there was security in my Port Said hotel. I came running from my cheap souk hostel in the old quarter where I overheard some locals below my window deciding to 'visit' me once the sun had gone down. As I felt rather weak and definitely out of sorts I took my time coming to grips with this kind of danger looming ahead. But when I heard one call out 'let s go now' I knew I had to run. So I found with some relief that my new hotel had an armed guard. Now this is what happened in a nutshell. I could write a book about the dangers I encountered in Egypt. My little Arabic may have saved me from terrible things happening.

I'd also ask you to read about the ikhwan movement and how the secularist government always fought its PEACEFUL members who were simply trying to brig back islam into the Egyptian society in a legal way after years of secularist government created by the British after they left like they always make sure to do. As to those innocent islamists you mention I'd like to contribute this little episode: travelling in one of those collective taxis south of Cairo a male suddenly blurted out from the back seat : there is an English woman in our midst , then adding slowly this is not good. Dead silence evolved and I sat like paralized. Thank god none of the passengers (all males) said as much as a word. The young fellow repeated his announcement twice adding more drama to his voice, hoping to fire the guys on no doubt. Luckily they all kept mute..... and I got away with a fright. Please do stop blaming the Americans for all your homemade evils.

We travelled to Egypt on an organized specialist archaeological tour in October 2022 (https://youtu.be/Qc1UyvRYujo). I'm sorry to say that even at that level we had some of the same experiences as in this video. We'd been before but it's getting worse. On arrival at Cairo Airport, the immigration officer failed to stamp my passport. Why not? I have no idea - she stamped everyone else's. So I wasn't allowed out of the immigration area by the guard. I was hauled off to an office and accused of not having a visa. I waved the visa at the official. He said I had used it before. No I hadn't. I showed him the date on it. Frantic clattering on a computer. Various other clowns weighed in. My wife was having a nervous breakdown, imagining I was about to get a ride on the Midnight Express. After 20 minutes of this farce he told the immigration officer to stamp the passport and I was through. What the hell was that all about? If it was an attempt at extorting a bribe, it failed. I didn't offer any money and no-one actually asked me for any. Half a dozen idiots with nothing better to do in the middle of the night except terrify us. Hotel security - yes, that's what happens: all the bags and you scanned, except that whatever noises go off they mostly wave the bags by and you go through anyway. When you go back to Cairo Airport you can't even check in without all your bags being scanned again first. Archaeological sites are held behind a buffer zone of obstruction, bribes, and corruption. It's impossible to enjoy anything properly. Checkpoints on the road and accompanied by armed cops the whole way. Everyone's on the take, even the tour company local staff. The UK arm of the company even specified the HUNDREDS of pounds, euros and $$ we should have to give the Egyptian staff on our coach, on top of our huge tour tariff and the tipping that went on behind the scenes. AND, eighteen years ago I was filming with Discovery in Egypt. Guess what? 75% of the camera crews' equipment was impounded at Cairo Airport for the duration of the shoot - and that was before some of the recent political turmoil. Ultimately it's supremely depressing, maddening, and despairing. And I haven't even started on filth and rubbish littering their main tourist attractions. We indeed will not be going back.

Absolutely agree!! My partner and I had a situation where someone stole one of our bag, when we reported to the police the police was laughing at us and made us feel so uncomfortable.
One of the police man that spoke a few English words went off at us screaming and try to play a detective Conan episode asking why my partner didn't chase the guy and other ridiculous ideas .
They kept us there for 6 hours and did nothing, at the end , they wanted to be paid more than the worth of the bag for giving us a report number or any sort of official paper . Unfortunately is the sad truth they see you as walking money and nothing else . The amount of scams and tricks that they will try to play on you is exhausting and frustrating.

If you want a good Middle East experience pick Oman (cheaper restaurants) or Dubai (more expensive though)

My wife and I have been wanting to take a trip to Cairo and see the Pyramids but after talking to other people and seeing these videos... no way. Friends went through he#+ and they did not get their camera gear back when leaving the country. Took tons of tourist pictures and then in the airport on the way out, security took their cameras. The security group was arguing how much to charge them to get their gear back and then left with it, never to be seen again. They were so scared they just got on the plane and got the eff out.

They stopped my sister at the airport and searched her luggage in a private room away from her for no apparent reason. When she got back home she found out they took all her gold jewelery out of the boxes and left the boxes empty inside the bags. She had a meltdown. I felt really bad for her cause unlike what those sick bastards think we don't sit on a pile of gold back in Saudi. She really worked her ass off over the years to buy herself nice stuff.

I went to Egypt in Nov 2021 and had very similiar experiences. But back then, covid was more rampant, and the hotels that offer "PCR covid tests" are usually just antigen when you get your paperwork back from them. Nearly everyone is sketchy there and trying to get money from you. Even security at the airport will ask for money, and they tried to keep my passport too! The pyramids and sphinx are cool to see, but definitely hire a reputable tour guide to fight off all the local scammers for you. Otherwise you will basically be chased around the entire time...

I’m Egyptian American and when I go to Egypt I get scared and hate the trip. Only go there to see my extended family and the food otherwise I’d never go back. So sorry you had to experience this 😢. You definitely want to go with someone local who knows the country. The experience is much better!

This might not be that interesting but I've been to Egypt with my friends this summer and after 5th day I started feeling very emotionaly unstable. We were treated as walking ATMs and people inflated prices to us all the time.
Nevertheless, we decided to go outside at night on our 6th day (we will be leaving to Serbia on 7th) and we wanted to buy drinks from a local store. The shopkeeper was the first man that showed dignity and honesty towards us and did not buff the prices up. My mind was blown because until that point noone treated us as equal human beings. And don't get me wrong I'm not a stone but that perticual gesture (acting normal) had such impact on me that I started crying. I thanked him so much for being honest and he was also very touched for me explaining why I am crying and even gifted me a small present from his shop. I could not belive how much I could miss the honor and dignity that a man SHOULD posses. If it was me to be asked tommorow - that man saved his country in my eyes.

How you describe your experience, people treating you as a walking ATM - I experienced exactly same in Peru. Of course not every Peruvian was rude and obnoxious, but still a lot of them. I felt from them a mixture of hatred and envy, they tought as an European I must be rich. Some of them tried to put me down. Peru is a beautiful country, the people are not so much. I also have been in Egypt and found the Egyptians warm and friendly (unlike the Peruvians). Despite the fact I was scammed there too. When I lost all my money, Egyptians gave me free accomodation, food and money. If that would have happened me in Peru, probably I would have died on the streets. So Egypt is not bad. I have very nice memories about it, hotel staff and random people were taking me to visit their families.... I have been in many countries but this didn't happen to me anywhere else only in Egypt.

I went to Cairo a week ago.
I'll never go back, even for someone not filming Cairo is a nightmare.
No issues with police, but the people I met weren't great. We even got parked in once and they demanded money to let us leave.

I went to Egypt myself... I went with my mum to see the pyramids and it was absolutely the most terrifying experience I have ever had. Nothing big happened but there were police on the side with big guns and ads on the tv telling people not to kill or abduct tourist. Nice people in terms of the population but we did have to give a lot of people money and a lot of issues with trying to get through customs and security. It was fairly exhausting experience, and we could not go anywhere without a chaperone.

As someone who grew up as a history nerd, Egypt is literally at the top of my bucket list. But because of such well-documented nightmarish experiences like this that you and other travel filmmakers like Lost Leblanc have had, I sadly won't be going there to film anytime soon

Great video. Some countries simply do not meet the minimum requirements for visiting, much less benefitting from tourist dollars. In 2000, I earned an MBA in international business, after a great term studying business in several countries in Asia while working on a business entry plan for a U.S. manufacturer. Then, I spent a couple months studying business in Central Europe and Russia. The single biggest takeaway I learned about doing any kind of business in Russia is -- Don't. Period. 22 years later, I would expand that advice against playing basketball there, also.

I spent almost a month in Egypt, in 2007, on a study tour. Nothing, absolutely nothing happened to me or to our group that would be considered "tourist unfriendly." Seeing this video confirmed my suspicions that things had changed after Egypt's recient uprisings. This makes me very sorry. During my time there, I met some very wonderful people and saw a world that was both ancient and modern. I ate lots of great food and took all the photos and films I wanted without problems or questions. I had planned to return to Egypt in 2023 but after seeing this video, I think I will suspend my plans for now.

I'm Australian, my wife kids and myself are extremely well travelled. I agree...don't go to Egypt. The hassle, corruption and vulnerability to travellers is very, very scary.

From the comments and my own experience,it seems also that they have a thing for westerners,sorry to say that..
As a Greek,I never experienced such expreme situations in Egypt,neither people I've met there from other middle eastern countries or from Asia!
it seems that the msot poeple that get scammed and are more vurneable are the "european looking" ones.

The growing hatrated towards the west is real..

I feel for you! - It would seem that the situation has got a lot worse than when I took a crew out to Dahab in January 2000 filming on Beta SP which needed flight cases full of tapes alone! I had meetings in London with the authorities who told us we did not need any permits (we were working with a dive tour operator and hotel there), so off to Egypt we go and upon arrival with our equipment list with serial numbers and values etc we get to customs where they had each camera entered into our passports with the serial number for some reason. A few days in and I had returned from filming underwater to the hotel/dive centre to find my land crew missing. A few hours later they turned up saying that the tourist police had pulled them into the police station and told them they had to get a permit from Cairo and not to film again until then. A few days later we had our permit along with a permanent little man in a leather jacket as minder. It actually worked well for us as we were sent to the head of checkpoints and usually just sailed through and never had any problems as our minder just seemed to have authority. One time a young lad took my passport and looked at it upside down, nodded and just handed it back. I guess we were lucky and times have changed a lot since then but I have not been back to Egypt since 2004.

I had a great time in Egypt. I did my research ahead of time. All went well. I left my drone home because I knew there stance. My only incident involved me setting up (adjusting) my rather complex gimball mounted camera outside the international arrivals to film other family members as they came through the door. Officials questioned my action. Another person kindly explained that they were concerned that I might be making a video that embarrasses their baggage processing (apparently someone else did this and I wasn't aware). They deleted my practice photo and let me be. This took a total of 20 minutes.

I had no problems shooting video and photos of whatever. Where photos were not allowed (unless paid in advance), officials casually allowed me to photo after taking a payment (bribe).

There were a few folks who were pushy with tourist stuff but that's found in all countries. I explored Giza, took a train to Luxor and road trip to Hurghada. I had no problem, was treated like royalty and would return again. I know many who toured Egypt and had a good time. Some had other issues but a lot depends on how you conduct yourself in other cultures. Note, I and my traveling companion are Africans. Most were from Southern Africa and I'm from the USA. .

Went to Egypt 2 years back, absolute hell on earth. Same deal, had iPad with charger and a camera was asked what it's for, tried to charge me a fine $400, a horrible horrible country, every person I spoke to wanted cash, going through a checkpoint had to pay an official (yeah right) $250, had a coffee which was awful and the bill was $12 just for coffee. Everything about this country is corrupt and horrible, never going back, I think if more people catch on the tourist trade will dry up.

Egypt has nice carpets and jewelery.I saw dad buying some as it was an official and family visit.Too bad my brother was scared to check out the pyramids from inside and make his way to the top.However he did mention to haunt me for the rest of my life that I returned with Solomon's genie forever.Its my brother that scared me,not Egypt.Its traditional,rich in culture,and money counts everywhere.

Wow! That is absolutely a nightmare. I had thought of going to Egypt as I am a fan of ancient civilizations but the way you explain the bureaucracy and the arbitrary detainment of anything and everything makes me certain it isn't worth the risk. Too bad these guys don't know who you are and what you actually do for tourism in various countries by highlighting the good points of places you visit. They sure blew it. I really love your channel. and appreciate all your hard work.

I visited Hurghada in 2015, and I remember it being quite a pleasant and interesting trip. We visited Luxor and the Valley of the Kings during our stay and snorkeled and drove some ATV's in the desert. Quite a nice trip. Didn't go to Cairo though. We struck gold maybe...

I went too Egypt in 2017 with solar powered car team of my university for a challenge . And it was okay. We carry some electronic hardware in our suitcase and They saw them in x-ray. And we explain the situation briefly. We managed to get through with a little effort. Maybe we got lucky because of the city(somabay) we went to. The city already looks like a British resort.

I was literally about to go to Egypt this summer for graduate study research and the u.s dep of education would not approve it; I'm now heading to Morocco. Will be my third time in good old Maroc, and I wanted to see Egypt badly, but you got me feeling like I dodged a serious bullet! Not to mention, I'm honored to go back to Morocco. AMAZING country

We travelled through Egypt just before Covid. I was on vacation with my girlfriend. I’m travelling on a British passport she on a Bulgarian passport, so two very obvious foreigners going across the country using trains and buses. Perhaps we were lucky, no hassle from the authorities, however there was always a tense feeling going through roadblocks and military checkpoints. Most people very nice and friendly (especially the ones we met on the Cairo to Luxor express) the country is extremely chaotic and this chaos together with the pace of things usually has foreigners in a spin. I thought turkey was a ‘no rules’ place, but Egypt is on a completely different level. It’s because it’s not like the west that makes it attractive, if you go there with preconceived ideas of modernity and organisation you will be a fish out of water and end up hating every minute of it. We are thankful that we went, had a safe and amazing trip, but was equally relieved to have left. It is an exhausting and at times scary experience that will be remembered, but would we go back, probably not.

A group of Spaniards, about 20 of us, were planning to go to Egypt. Other travelers recommended us that we shouldn't even think of traveling there. That it is a hyper-corrupt country, where each person tries to get money from you by whatever means. One after another testimony that I heard told me the same thing. The truth is that it does not make sense to spend a lot of money to visit a country that the only thing that is going to offer you are bad memories. No one should travel to Egypt until they learn to be civilized.

I spent a lot of time in Egypt and it is to sad that the Egyptian Authorities make is so difficult for tourism, Once you get out of Cairo the landscaping is absolutely stunning, the country is rich in history and the people are generally very friendly, I have been from Aswan in the South to Alexandria in the North, the general population makes very money and rely on tourism, more tourist more money for the people. but there seems to be a large disconnect with the authorities in the higher positions, I have said for a long time now that if they had a very well oiled wheel and ran the country properly they could make one hell of a lot of money from tourism, they need to understand this basic fundament issues of attracting tourists, by charging extra money here and there for nothing like they did with you causes bad publicity which actually promote nothing, again, less issues with the tourist promotes a much healthy economy.

My Egyptian experience is the same. I felt as if there were terrorists lurking in every corner and a lot of underlying aggression.. Total surprise, considering it is one of the oldest civilizations. I'll never go back and was relieved to leave it more than any other foreign country I've been in. Hatred lives in Egypt
