You're The One
White Heart Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I say there's wolves all around
Me
But they're dressed up pretty nice
Uptown hustlers, wheelers and
Dealers
And my soul is their price

In the airports, in the markets
They are even on T.V.
They are saying, "We got the
Answers"
But they will never set me free

I believe that You're the one
I believe that You're the one
Let them work their magic
For them it will be so tragic
They will soon, soon find out
That when it's said and done
They're setting suns

Well I know, one thing's for
Certain
You will never ever change
Since the dawning of the ages
Your love has been the same

I believe that You're the one
I believe that You're the one
Let them work their magic
For them it will be so tragic
They will soon, soon find out
That when it's said and done
They're setting suns

I believe that You're the one
I believe that You're the one

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of White Heart's "You're The One" highlight the existence of wolves dressed up in the garb of uptown hustlers and dealers who are lurking around every corner waiting for their chance to prey on unsuspecting souls. They claim to possess answers but in reality, their ultimate goal is to claim one's soul as their prize. The chorus of the song is a declaration of faith that despite these wolves, the singer believes that there is someone who is the one - a higher power who will never change and has been constant throughout the ages, and whose love is the only true source of salvation. The singer affirms their trust in this power to protect them from the wolves, and the song ends with the confidence that the setting suns of those who fall prey to the wolves are not the end, for there is someone who has the ultimate power over life and death.

From 1:00 - 2:00 when I heard this song in 1985 on the way to a Rick Cua / Amy Grant concert in 1985 with friends I knew I'd never be the same. This is one of the best pre-Rick Florian WH songs ever recorded. Thank you for putting this song on here... God Bless you my friend. Kimonoskunk

Dann Huff on guitars and Dave Huff on Drums! One of the best guitar solos of that time in my opinion.

Wow, this song is 36 years old. The band I was in covered this song when it was only 4 years old.
It was my idea, I had to move over from bass to rhythm guitar, and had to teach a trumpet player to play the bass line. I just loved this song too much not to try it....

I was thinking about the guitars - I think the beat and rhythm guitar sound like funk, while the lead guitar sounds more like hard rock/heavy metal. But that's my opinion.

I read a CCM magazine article where Scott Douglas said he lost all rights to the microphone. And I've heard Dann Huff has gotten into interfaith, almost new age type beliefs.
