Named after the 1932 Bela Lugosi film, White Zombie's musical style was sample-heavy, based around groovy riffs and Rob Zombie's snarling vocals. The samples that filled their records were mostly from obscure horror films, but used creatively to create a kind of carnival freak-show vibe.
Rob Zombie, still known at this time as Rob Cummings, supported himself through multiple jobs, including working as a cycle courier. Most famously, he was a production assistant on Pee-Wee's Playhouse, but he also worked as a designer on pornographic magazines. At this time, he became involved with Shauna Reynolds, another up-and-coming designer. Together they shared a love of classic horror and sci-fi, heavy music, and the weirder corners of American underground culture. They decided to form a band that would draw upon all these influences and White Zombie was formed. Rob took vocals and the name Rob Straker (later changed to Rob Zombie), while Reynolds became the bassist and assumed the name of Sean Yseult. They became the only constants in the often-fluctuating band line-up.
White Zombie best showed their signature style on their final two studio albums. La Sexorcisto: Devil Music, Vol. 1 and Astro-Creep: 2000 Songs of Love, Destruction and Other Synthetic Delusions of the Electric Head were impressive displays of their sample/riff style, thanks to higher production values.
In 1998, Rob Zombie founded his own label, Zombie-A-Go-Go, signing surf and horror acts like The Bomboras and The Ghastly Ones, as well as compiling the mix album Halloween Hootenany. He was managing the new band of his brother Michael, now known as Spider One, the punk-tinged Powerman 5000, but also looked to his own solo career.
After huge opening week sales of his first solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe that dwarfed those of any White Zombie release, it was announced that the band had split up. Bassist Sean Yseult left to form female horror-rockers Famous Monsters and, later, Rock City Morgue. Rob Zombie went on to continued success with his solo music project, and new acclaim as a successful film director.

A demolition style hell
American freak, yeah
I am the crawling dead
A phantom in a box
Shadow in your head, say
Acid suicide
Freedom of the blast read the fucking lies, yeah
Tear into my heart, make me do it again, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
Yeah, I am the jigsaw man
I turn the world around with a skeleton hand
Say, I am electric head
A cannibal core, a television said, yeah
Do not victimize
Read the motherfucker psychoholic lies, yeah
Into a psychic war
I tear my soul apart
And I eat it some more, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
Yeah, I am the ripper man
A locomotion mind, love American style, yeah
I am the Nexus-One
I want more life, fucker
I ain't done yet
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
More human than human
The opening lines of White Zombie's song "More Human Than Human" introduces the persona of the singer as a sci-fi character. He is the "Astro-Creep", a hellish American "freak" who is undead and exists only as a "phantom in a box" or "shadow in your head". The lyrics suggest that the character is created from the depths of science fiction and horror stories, and that he represents the darker aspects of American culture - the "acid suicide freedom of the blast" and the "fucker lies" that pervade society. The character then challenges the listener to "Make me do it again" in a manner that suggests he is daring them to confront their own darker impulses.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "More human than human" - a line that has become synonymous with the song since its release. The meaning behind the phrase is ambiguous, but it suggests that the character is attempting to assert his own humanity even in the face of his monstrous appearance and actions. The second verse reinforces this idea, as the character describes himself as the "jigsaw man" who can "turn the world around with a skeleton hand". However, he also acknowledges his monstrous side by referring to himself as "electric head" and a "cannibal core". The character then echoes the earlier lines about "fucker lies" and "psychoholic lies", suggesting that he himself is a victim of the lies that pervade the world around him.
As the song progresses, the character becomes increasingly violent and destructive. He describes himself as the "ripper man" with a "locomotion mind" who seeks "more life". The closing line of the song, "Fucker I ain't done yet", suggests that the character is far from finished with his destructive path.

When this song came out, I worked at a bar in Texas that had shitty air conditioning that was always breaking down. Our DJ used to play this song and call it our theme song: "More humid than humid".
