Hold me in you arms, so tight
Black seed of death
Shower me in your darkest powers
I still can hear your voice whispering the sweetest lullaby
I can still smell your scent as if you had never left my side
That despicable man shall pay with his fucking life
I know where he sleeps at night but I just need to know
Will you still be here?
Mother, I swear to you...
That despicable man shall pay with his fucking life
I know where he sleeps at night but I just need to know
Will you still be here?
Black seed of death
Hold me in you arms, so tight
Black seed of death
Shower me in your darkest powers
Psychotic motivation has me going again
And this time it's more than I can handle
He is just within reach...
My heart is pounding and I start to break the sweats
Of every weakness I harvest inside
My prize has turned in fear...
I've never felt so vengeful
I have his head, but his presence
I feel inside of me...
How can this be?
Mother, I have forsaken you
Please forgive me...
I am dead inside!
The lyrics of Whitechapel's song Animus explore a protagonist's inner turmoil while seeking vengeance against a man who has wronged them. The singer seeks comfort and guidance from their deceased mother, represented by the "black seed of death" which can be interpreted as a metaphor for grief and mourning. The singer longs for the familiar feeling of their mother's embrace and her strength, to help them navigate the difficult task of taking revenge. They are haunted by memories of their mother, such as the sound of her voice, and the scent that still lingers in the air, despite her absence.
The singer's desire for revenge is twisted and fueled by their own psychotic motivations, which they struggle to control. Their inner struggle is reflected in the repetition of the phrase "Mother, I swear to you…", suggesting they are making a promise to their mother to seek justice, but also questioning their own ability to complete the task. As they get closer to their target, the singer becomes overwhelmed by their own emotions, physically breaking into a sweat, and feeling a sense of weakness.
In the end, the singer realizes their own moral failing, having forsaken their mother's teachings, and feels a deep sense of loss and emptiness, encapsulated in the final phrase "I am dead inside". Overall, the lyrics of Animus explore complex themes of grief, revenge, and morality, delivering a powerful and emotional message.

It's black seed of death. The song is about Phil's mother passing away and how it's his step fathers fault for getting her hooked on crack
