Collide
Whitecross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Imagination plays with truth and lies
Deliberation, only good when love's alive
Only good, when love's alive

Oh how he waits, oh how he waits
Yes tonight he waits for you
Do you know he waits don't you walk away
He gave his life for you

If I start to daydream, it's because I'm all right
I'm only waiting for God to make it right
I have no talent, no gift to offer you
Oh, oh, oh, empty room
Empty rooms!

Oh how he waits, oh how he waits
Yes tonight he waits for you
Do you know he waits don't you walk away
He gave his life for you

Oh how he waits, don't you know he waits
Yes he took the pain for you
Do you know he waits, don't you walk away
He gave his life for you

When it seems that all is lost
You are close now count the cost

When your life and his collide
You will know there's hope inside

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of "Collide" by Whitecross shed light on the concept of truth and lies when it comes to imagination. The song discusses how truthful imagination can be a very powerful thing, but it can also be destructive if mixed with lies. The lyrics then shift to the topic of deliberation, where the songwriters mention that love is the only gateway to making sound decisions. Without love, deliberation is ineffective. In this case, love refers to the love of God who is waiting for us to reach out to Him.

From the chorus, we understand that God is waiting for us. He waits for us to accept His unconditional love and the sacrifice He made for us by giving His life. The second verse takes a different angle on the same theme as the opening lyrics. The vocalist explains that the reason he starts daydreaming is that he's just waiting for God to answer his prayers and put things together, even though he may not have any unique or specific gifts to offer. The empty room metaphor appears in this verse, and it could be interpreted as an empty heart longing to be filled by God's love.

The bridge of the song brings a powerful message of hope to the listeners. The lyrics state that when all feels lost, we must count the cost and always remember that our life and God's life collided. In that moment, we find renewed hope and peace within our souls.

Overall, "Collide" emphasizes the idea that God is constantly waiting for us to accept His love and that He will always wait for us no matter what. The songwriters also mention that true love is the only way to make sound decisions, and when we surrender to God, we find renewed hope in our lives.

"thought the fight was fixed" rather than "thought the light was fixed". The imagery in the song is all about fighting in a ring and a fixed fight is not a fair one.
