Frank
Whitecross Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Frank was a contractor, who got up every morining.
Skinn'n cats and fix'n cars, his day was far frm boring.
Souped up Ford, V-8 289, running down those punks was always on his mind.

Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?
Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?

Ford was wired for nitro. Canister sat in the back.
Ten inch slicks, ratchet shift, smoke, rubber layed in his tracks.
Frank didn't like us, just wanted to have some fun.
So we played our music, and he put us on the run.

Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?
Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?

Frank started the beast. Smoke spewed from the trunk.
Oil sprated from the hood, that can of nitro junk.
The car swelled then exploded, flying across the street.
Frank slowly stepped out, staggering to his feet.

Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?
Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?

So our story ends, with the psycho contractor guy.
Moral of the story is "if Franks around, turn the music down, and you better learn how to run fast"

Frank was a contractor.
Is he after you?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Whitecross's song Frank tell the story of a man named Frank who is a contractor by profession, but also has a love for fast cars and causing trouble. The song opens with a description of Frank's daily routine - getting up early every morning and spending his days skinning cats and fixing cars. However, his true passion is racing his souped-up Ford, which is equipped with a V-8 289 engine and nitro canister in the back. Running down "punks" is always on his mind, which is a reference to chasing down and terrorizing the youth who cross his path.

As the song progresses, the singer describes how Frank and his love for speed affect their lives. The lyrics reveal that Frank dislikes the singer and his friends, causing tensions whenever they're around. When they start playing their music, Frank takes the opportunity to chase them down in his car. The singer describes the sound of Frank's Ford revving up and leaving marks on the street, and the thrill and danger of being chased by this wild driver.

The song reaches its climax when Frank's car explodes, sending him flying across the street. He eventually staggers to his feet, but the incident puts an end to his reckless behavior. The singer ends the song with a warning to anyone who encounters Frank - turn down the music and run fast.
