No Second Chances
Whitecross Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
He was always wantin' more
And Lazarus the beggar
Laid at the gate covered with sores
It wasn't long and the beggar died
The angels carried him to Abraham's side
When the rich man died he felt the torment of hell He looked up, his voice rang like a bell
Give me one more chance to do things right
Just one more chance, I'll follow the light
But there's no second chances, the Host of Heaven cried
No second chances, you listened to lies
The rich man, oh, he couldn't go back
To warn his brothers of his fate
Now we've been given the charge
It's up to us, now don't hesitate
Are you livin' in the comfort zone
Storin' up treasures that soon'll be gone
Or tellin' your brother that Jesus died
The song "No Second Chances" by Whitecross alludes to the parable of the rich man and Lazarus from the Bible. The rich man, living a life of luxury, always wanted more, while Lazarus the beggar, suffering from sores, laid at his gate. When the beggar died, he was carried by the angels to Abraham's side, whereas the rich man suffered torment in hell after he died. The rich man implored the Host of Heaven to give him another chance to do things right, but to no avail. The point of this parable is that after death, judgment follows, and there is no second chance to make things right.
The singer warns listeners not to live in their comfort zones but to take charge and not hesitate in telling others about Jesus dying for their sins. The song suggests that those who focus on storing treasures on earth will not inherit heaven and should be cautioned about the value of living a Christ-like life.

I wager I can change your mind 😊
Galatians 5
The works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, drug use, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these.
The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.
Be real hard for anybody to argue with that logic.
