When The Walls Tumble Down
Whitecross Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Addicted to wine and women
Seems there's no escape from the vise
But still a higher power comes down
Like a chisel on cold steel
It's the love of God knockin' on the door
With a love that's oh so real
There's no stoppin' the love from comin' in
When the walls tumble down
The new life will begin
Now you have a chance to lay it on the line
They're all playin' their cards
But they're runnin' out of time
Still the love of God keeps knockin'
Lick the hammer hits the nail
And the light through you can reach the world
If you let His love prevail
In this song, Whitecross sings about a person who is trapped in a life of addiction and a cold heart. The person is addicted to wine and women, and it seems like they cannot escape from the vices that control their life. Despite this, there is a higher power that comes down and tries to break through the ice that surrounds this person's heart. It is the love of God that is knocking on the door, trying to break through the cold steel and bring a love that is real.
The lyrics speak about the power of God's love and how it can help people overcome their struggles. It is a message of hope, reminding listeners that no matter how strong their vices may seem, there is always a chance for them to turn their life around and start anew. The image of the walls tumbling down represents a breakthrough moment, where the love of God can come flooding in and start a new life.

"thought the fight was fixed" rather than "thought the light was fixed". The imagery in the song is all about fighting in a ring and a fixed fight is not a fair one.
