About Whitfield
Vancouvers Whitfield have just completed their new album entitled Well Behaved & Working For You. The album was recorded over 2 intense weeks with producers The Glitter Twins at Oregon Citys Supernatural Sound, one of the most reputable studios in the North West. A handful of advance copies generated extraordinary reviews and interest in the group, and the local CD release party was sold-out before the band hit the stage.
In the last few months, Whitfield has received Best of The Fest award at NewMusicWest 2006, the Peoples Choice award at Toronto Indie Week, and Best Alternative Group at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. The band also recently supported British multi-platinum group Athlete at the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver.
Originally from the UK, singer Jobie Mallett united with drummer Sam Bastedo and Bassist Josh McCulloch in Kamloops, BC. Since moving to Vancouver two years ago, Whitfield has exploded from modest beginnings into a national calibre act.

With your cutsie little smile
And your short blonde hair
Hey you do you see me over here
I'm right outside your window
It must look kinda typical
And slighty egotistical
You're lookin kinda frantic
And just a bit romantic
Sticky when your boyfriend can see
You're falling for me, yea
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
There's a place you can be who you wanna be
It's right outside your window
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
I know a place where you can love who you wanna love
It's right outside your window
Hey you, dancing over there
I'm hypnotized and I cannot break the stare
Hold my hand
Kiss if you dare tonight
I'm a new contender
Jumping in the game
For a second lets pretend
That you're gonna run away with me
Imangine we could be
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
There's a place you can be who you wanna be
It's right outside your window
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
I know a place where you can love who you wanna love
It's right outside your window
Tonight when the dj spins the last song
The crowd moves in and you sing along
I walk up to you in a casual way
I'll kiss your lips
I'll ask your name
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
There's a place you can be who you wanna be
It's right outside your window
Standing on top of the world
Where nobody can bring us down
I know a place where you can love who you wanna love
It's right outside your window
STANDING ON TOP OF THE WORLD
STANDING ON TOP OF THE WORLD
The lyrics of Whitfieldās song Top of the World describe a personās desire for a girl they have a crush on. The song starts with the singer admiring the girl from afar and making eye contact with her outside her window. He then goes on to express his desire to be with her and his belief that she would look better with him. The girl seems to reciprocate his feelings, as she looks both frantic and romantic, despite her boyfriend being present. The chorus repeats the phrase āstanding on top of the worldā twice, which can be interpreted as the singerās feeling of love and invincibility when he is with this girl.
The second verse of the song is more unexpected than the first. It starts with the singer asking the girl to dance and then offering to kiss her, with the expectation that they will run away together. The singerās confidence is evident as he describes himself as a new contender, ready to jump into the game of love. In the bridge, the singer imagines approaching the girl at a club and introducing himself, ultimately kissing her and asking for her name.
Overall, the song can be seen as a young personās ode to the feeling of infatuation and teenage love. It also touches on the idea of escapism and the desire to be with someone who makes you feel invincible.
