I'll Be Okay
Why Don't We Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Makes me wanna be the best man that I can be
I like that she keeps things oh-so simple
Less stress, more uh, if she got the dimples
I get scared when I think about the future
I'm a junk man, she's a promise abuser
Hell, I know that we're bad for each other
I made my own bed but she tucked me under
Ooh
We did it for the hell of it
We did it for the good times and the bad ones
We didn't think about what shit might happen
But once you light a fire, it's gonna burn
I'll be okay to keep it simple
I'll stay outta your way and won't let you know
I need your love tonight
I need your love
I'll be okay as long as you are
It's been the longest day and I
I need your love tonight
I need your love
(Ah, ah, ah, ah)
Innocent of sin
Baby, in the moment we all think we know
But when it's too late, all the answers show
(Ah, ah, ah, ah)
No forgiving then
All it takes is time and some selfish pride
To flip our love story on its side
Ooh
We did it for the hell of it (we did it for the hell of it)
We did it for the good times and the bad ones
We didn't think about what shit might happen
But once you light a fire, it's gonna burn
I'll be okay to keep it simple
I'll stay outta your way and won't let you know (oh)
I need your love tonight
I need your love
I'll be okay as long as you are
It's been the longest day and I (and I)
I need your love tonight (need your love tonight)
I need your love
Stranded on an island
Can't escape, I'm tryin'
I need you to come help
I need you to come help
Baby, you're an angel
You did nothing wrong
But you've been giving me hell (you've been giving me hell)
You've been giving me hell
I'll be okay to keep it simple
I'll stay outta your way and won't let you know
I need your love tonight
Oh, tonight
I'll be okay as long as you are
It's been the longest day and I (and I)
I need your love tonight (need your love tonight)
I need your love (ooh)
I'll be okay to keep it simple (I'll keep it simple)
I'll stay outta your way and won't let you know
I need your love tonight (need your love tonight)
I need your love
Ooh, ooh
(i need, I need your love)
Need your love tonight
Oh, shit, yeah, that sounds sick
"I'll Be Okay" by Why Don't We is a song about a toxic relationship. The first verse depicts the singer's love interest in a positive light, describing her as sweet and simple. However, he also acknowledges that they are bad for each other and that their future together is uncertain. Despite this, the chorus reveals that he still needs her love because he cannot cope on his own. In the second verse, the singer reflects on the consequences of their relationship, admitting that they did not think about what might happen and that their love story has flipped on its side. The bridge highlights the conflict in the relationship, with the singer feeling stranded and in need of help, while also acknowledging that his partner has done nothing wrong.
The song's lyrics ultimately suggest that while the relationship may not be healthy, the singer needs his partner's love to survive. The song's instrumentation, which features a catchy chorus and an upbeat melody, contrasts with the dark themes of the lyrics, underscoring the confusion and complexity of the singer's emotions.
