The band was originally formed on September 27, 2016, and announced it the next day via their YouTube account. Since then, the band has released three EPs and two albums.
On October 7, 2016, the group released their debut single "Taking You", a track from their debut EP, Only the Beginning, which was released on November 25 of the same year. Their second EP, Something Different, was released on April 21, 2017. Its title track was released as the lead single the same day. They released their third EP, Why Don't We Just, on June 2, 2017.
They released their debut album 8 Letters on August 31, 2018. It debuted and peaked at number 9 on the Billboard 200.
In 2021, they released singles Love Back and Mistletoe. They also released their sophomore album, The Good Times and The Bad Ones, along with the singles Fallin' (Adrenaline), Slow Down, and Lotus Inn. The album debuted and peaked at number 3 on the Billboard 200.
The band has currently been releasing music they've written themselves, something they have recently committed to doing. They have recently released Let Me Down Easy (Lie), Just Friends, and How Do You Love Somebody. In January 2022, they released Don't Wake Me Up, a collaboration with Jonas Blue.
They had originally planned to go on tour in the United States, The Good Times Only Tour, in 2022 from July 27 to October 1, but because of unforeseen consequences, the band canceled the tour and began an official hiatus.

Why Don't We Lyrics

I saw you movin' on the dancefloor
I caught you lookin' over at me and my friends
Got my attention, now I want more
I think we both know how this night's gonna end
The way that you move your hips to the rhythm of the beat
You got me so nervous, think I need another drink
But then you grabbed my hand, said, "Baby, come with me"
This wasn't a part of the plan, no
But you look, you look so perfect dancing next to me
I wish the sun would look the other way
'Cause I never want this night to end
Baby, we could turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we can press rewind
We're staying at the Lotus Inn
Baby, we could turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we can press rewind
I never want this night to end
Played you this song up on the stereo (what? Yeah)
You played it over and over again
Before it even hit the radio, oh-whoa-oh
Now they spin it over and over again (again, again)
We've had a few good nights and a couple of bad ones
A few bad fights but I'm glad that they happened
At the end of the night, I can honestly say
I'd do it over and over and over again, yeah
But you look, you look so perfect dancing next to me
I wish the sun would look the other way
'Cause I never want this night to end
Baby, we could turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we can press rewind
We're staying at the Lotus Inn
Baby, we could turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we can press rewind
I never want this night to end
Ayy-yeah, ayy-yeah-yeah
Ayy-yeah, ayy-yeah-yeah
Ayy-yeah, ayy-yeah-yeah
Oh yeah-yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah
Baby, we can turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we could press rewind
We're staying at the Lotus Inn
Baby, we could turn back time
Do it all over again
Tomorrow we can press rewind (oh, yeah yeah, yeah yeah)
I never want this night to end
Baby, we can turn back
The lyrics of Why Don't We's song "Lotus Inn" describe a chance encounter between the singer and someone they meet while dancing. The singer is captivated by the person's movements and quickly becomes nervous, but their anxiety is quelled when the person takes their hand and leads them away. As the night wears on, the two spend time together, listening to music and enjoying each other's company. The singer is so enamored with their new companion that they wish they could stay in that moment forever, turning back time to relive it again and again.
The song's lyrics are relatively straightforward, describing a common theme in music: the intense allure of romantic attraction. However, the lyrics are notable for their use of the Lotus Inn as a setting. The imagery of the Lotus Inn conjures up images of a luxurious and serene environment, adding to the song's dreamlike quality.
The repeated focus on "turning back time" emphasizes the singer's desire to relive this moment of connection, suggesting that there is something significant about this encounter that transcends ordinary attraction.
The music video for "Lotus Inn" builds on the song's themes, with the band members performing in a cinematic, opulent setting, interspersed with scenes of a couple dancing and enjoying each other's company.
