Finale
Wicked Die Hexen von Oz Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Volk von Oz:

Keiner weint um Hexen.
Endlich ist die Hexe tot.
Endlich ist das Land erlöst von ihr.

Wie gut.
Wie gut.

Du warst da,
Darum hab ich mich verändert,
Nur, weil wir uns kannten.

Keiner weint um Hexen.

Weil wir uns kannten,
Bin ich heut wie-

Keiner weint um
Hexen

Hexen
Hexen!

Overall Meaning

In the final song of Wicked Die Hexen von Oz, "Finale", the citizens of Oz rejoice over the death of the Wicked Witch. They believe that the witch's death has freed the land from her evil reign, and that peace has finally been restored. They sing that nobody mourns for witches, and how good it is that the witch is gone. One individual addresses the fact that the presence of the other character, likely Glinda, has caused them to change. Even though the witches are being celebrated, throughout the musical we have seen the complexity of their portrayal, with Elphaba being misunderstood and deemed wicked solely for her differences, leading to sympathy for her seemingly tragic demise.

{After For Good/Wie Ich Bin, Elphaba and Glinda embrace. A noise is heard offstage. Glinda breaks away, startled.}

Glinda: What was that?
Elphaba: to Glinda Hurry! No one can know you were here. Hide yourself-!

{Elphaba exits up the stairs to the tower. Glinda hides behinds the wall as Tin Man, Lion and Scarecrow enter. Scarecrow ascends the stairs, opens a trap door and frees Dorothy. He leads her down the side. Suddenly the doors open, revealing Elphaba armed with her broomstick. The friends then turn and scream, terrified.}

Elphaba: Look who we got here? Out with it! crosses down the staircase Who want's to die first? How about you, Scarecrow? You look easily flamable!

{And she threatens him with her smoking broom. Dorothy then grabs a rusty bucket from the floor and throws the water at the broom (they used glitter to represent the water here}, some of it hits Elphaba. She drops the broom and "melts" into the floor as smoke comes up around her. Smoke then clears revealing her hat. All look down at the hat.}

Lion: to Dorothy You melted her!
All: YES!
Tin Man: to Lion and Scarecrow We must report this to the Wizard! to Dorothy Take her broom with you!

{Dorothy grabs the broom and they exit. Glinda steps forward and crosses to the hat. Chistery enters.}

Glinda: sadly Oh, Elphie!

{Chistery slowly lifts the hat and sees that there's a small green bottle underneath. He holds it out to Glinda.}

Chistery: Miss? Miss Glinda?
Glinda: Chistery? You're>speaking?

Wow they added back the “As Long As Your Mine” melody during Elphaba and Fiyero’s reunion. That was in the workshop in 2001 but they didn’t do it in Broadway.

Samuel King

They *do*. And the next time you go to WICKED on Broadway, listen very carefully underneath the end dialogue.

Michael Andre Polines

They do have it on Broadway! It’s something i always look out for when i listen to the score!

the way glinda can fully see the melting happen here and not just the shadow of it 🥺 makes it so much more heart wrenching that she’s literally just watched her friend die

@Transportandtheatrekid And dramatic too.

Transportandtheatrekid

And she wants to run over and say a last goodbye to elphie as she melts but she knows she can’t also Makes it so much sadder

Evan

Love the melting scene. So much better than the awful curtain normally used.

@Nolan B i don’t think they will change anything. usually when a show finishes previews it can’t be updated anymore. the only time wicked was updated was in 2006 when it opened in the west end, and they changed some of the lightings, choreographies and costumes, but they were really minor changes.

@ActorJulion As is London and the National Tour Lol🤣

Samuel King

@ActorJulion Broadway WICKED and London WICKED needs to be updated after the movies have come out.
