Space Wrangler
Widespread Panic Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

A little wrangler was born
I seen him squirming in the saddle all wet and warm
He's such a changeable form in his very first year

He rides on to wrangler school
With a slingshot and a saddlebag of hand-me-down tools
Doesn't want to look like a fool
Pass the jail without tears

Time machines, remembered scenes
That a wrangler rides through a passing stream
Time's replaced by a peaceful dream
Wrangler space

He reigns his pony to the gate of the school
Feather pens and inkwells of hand-me-down rules
Like trading a pony for an aging mule
He rides away without fear

Time machines, new routines
That a wrangler rides through a passing dream
And time's replaced by a peaceful stream
Space wrangler space

He gets off at a stranger's place
Where the girls dance different with familiar grace
He's knowing that he found the place
That pours the coldest beer

Skol, very cold beer
Cheers, to your friends so near

High, your dreams so clear
Raise another glass to the dreams so near

Overall Meaning

The song "Space Wrangler" by Widespread Panic is about a young wrangler who is born into a world of change and transformation. The opening lines describe how the singer saw the young wrangler squirming in the saddle, indicating that he was literally born into this life. The singer then talks about how, in his first year, the young wrangler already shows signs of being a changeable form, suggesting that he will continue to transform and evolve as he grows older.

As the song progresses, the young wrangler is described as going to wrangler school, where he learns the rules and tools of his trade. The lyrics suggest that he doesn't want to look like a fool or appear weak in front of others, so he passes the jail without tears. This could indicate that he's tough and unflappable, or that he's determined to succeed no matter what obstacles he faces.

The chorus of the song talks about time machines and remembered scenes, suggesting that the young wrangler is able to transcend time and space. The lyrics indicate that he's a space wrangler, someone who can explore new frontiers and discover new worlds. He rides through a passing stream, which is replaced by a peaceful dream, suggesting that he's able to navigate the many challenges of life with grace and ease.

That break has never, and will never, be the same wave that I fell in love with. 2001 AD.

Don’t make it less groovy.
Only different today.

Bless all of y’all. Even you George. I’ve got love for you.

Roll Todd.

Be nice to each other.

I've been listening to panic since '97 and yeah...... still goosebumps..........Thank you Mikey. Why worry when you can PANIC.

Ahh yes ‘97, that wasn’t the exact time but it was definitely around that time that Michael Jordan was wrapping up his wonderful and immaculate career, playing Basketball for Coach Phil Jackson and the Chicago Bulls. Jordan was a Shooting Gaurd, that’s a position. He didn’t even play for near as long as some of these other greats, yet he outdid them all with a very wide margin. All the more impressive considering the shorter career. Michael Jordan was and is and always will be the Best Basketball Player EVER. I’m doing my best to steer clear of using the term G.O.A.T. considering its Luciferean ties. We don’t want to hold The Great MJ above Yahweh by no means. MJ’s great but he’s not God, don’t forget that people... he’s still human. #23 Yes yes yes
