Long Tall Sally
Wild Angels Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm gonna tell Aunt Mary 'bout Uncle John
He said he had the misery but he got a lot of fun
Baby, yeah now baby
Woo baby, some fun tonight

I saw Uncle John with Long Tall Sally
He saw Aunt Mary comin' and he ducked back in the alley
Oh, baby, yeah now baby
Woo baby, some fun tonight

Well Long Tall Sally's built pretty sweet
She got everything that Uncle John need
Baby, yeah now baby
Woo baby, some fun tonight

Well, we're gonna have some fun tonight
Have some fun tonight
Everything's all right
Have some fun tonight
Have some fun
Yeah, yeah, yeah

We're gonna have some fun tonight
Have some fun tonight
Everything's all right
Have some fun tonight

Yeah, we'll have some fun
Some fun tonight

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Long Tall Sally" by Wild Angels are about Uncle John, who is having an affair with a woman named Long Tall Sally. The singer of the song sees Uncle John with Long Tall Sally and knows that Aunt Mary would not be pleased, so they plan to tell her. However, despite the affair causing misery, Uncle John is having a lot of fun. The song implies that there will be consequences for Uncle John's behavior, but in the moment, they are focused on having fun. The chorus repeats that they are going to have fun tonight, and everything is alright.

This song and its lyrics are typical of the rock and roll genre, where the focus is often on having fun, even if it means breaking societal norms. In this case, the societal norm being broken is Uncle John's marriage, and the consequences of this behavior are not explored in the song. Instead, the focus is on the moment and having a good time.

Thanks for the video as I remember seeing them at the Gale.We also went to see them at a little hall in Kent but I am blowed if I can remember where now. They peaked too soon as Showaddywaddy and Shaking Stevens were successful but the WA were far superior. The last time I met Mel Gray he was surprised I knew him and he was working on the Everly Bros tour over here. Absolutely brilliant band and missed by many of us.Boy was the drummer good as well.

Great!.... Malcolm only ever wanted to be a Rock 'n' Roll singer.....he made it too!!.....we were mates from 1954 after I moved to Catford...used to play football and go down Millwall....but he always said, "I wanna do Rock 'n' Roll".....He always loved everything American as a boy - I live here now but always hoped we might jam again one day - but I just read elsewhere on here that he is gone......"C'mon You Lions (Millwall) !!"
