The four boys of Wild Beasts arenβt concerned with being of the modern or being of the renaissance, being baggy pantsed or being tight pantsed, being in a scene or being in a place. Wild Beastsβ music just is.

Wild Beasts Lyrics

That people are the strangest things.
Design of desire
Means all that the heart requires
Is what it can't recognize.
Oh no, hm
That people are the hardest things.
Design of desire
Means all that the heart requires
Is what it can't compromise.
Oh no
Oh, oh, oh, oh
I've made enough enemies.
No I've made enough enemies.
Forget now
How many must I
Forget now
How many must I
Forget now
How many must I forget?
Remember
As many as I
Remember
As many as I
Remember
I must forget.
Regret now
How many do I
Regret now
How many do I
Regret now
How many do I
Regret?
Slender
Oh there is so many
Slender
Oh there is so many
Slender
Oh there is so many
Slender songs I regret.
Oh don't you think
That people are the strangest things
Design of desire
Means all that the heart requires
Is what it can't sympathize.
The lyrics to "Loop the Loop" by Wild Beasts explore the complexity of human desire and relationships. The first stanza opens with the observation that people are "strange" and "hard," suggesting the difficulty in understanding and navigating human connections. The design of desire, as mentioned in the lyrics, implies that the heart wants what it cannot have or cannot recognize. The repetition of the phrase "oh no" emphasizes the frustration of this situation.
In the second stanza, the lyrics shift to the theme of regret and forgetting. The singer has made enough enemies and must forget a certain number of them. However, they must also remember an equal number, creating a sense of ambivalence and uncertainty. The final stanza returns to the idea of desire, suggesting that the heart cannot sympathize with what it wants. The repetition of "slender" reinforces the idea that the singer has many regrets and desires that cannot be fulfilled.

I feel so fortunate to have seen them live. This song is so texturally gorgeous. This song along with His Grinning Skull separates The Wild Beasts from so many other artists. Their trajectory from Limbo to Smother is so very satisfying. As so many others have shared, I miss them too.

This is probably one of my favorite songs. Too often I find people strange. Everybody seems to be depressed and so unbelievably ignorant of the great opportunities in front of them. When you try and try to help and yet nobody seems to listen, they force you to forget them. You beg for it to be simple. lyrically this song is very personal, musically this song expresses what you want to express. It's really a masterpiece!
stcrude
good job at getting the opposite point of the song

Depression isnβt a strange thing my love! And the greatest thing can be in front of someone who had depression and they can still be depressed. Itβs not by choice!
