The four boys of Wild Beasts aren’t concerned with being of the modern or being of the renaissance, being baggy pantsed or being tight pantsed, being in a scene or being in a place. Wild Beasts’ music just is.
On 25 September 2017, the band announced that they were disbanding, playing their final gig on 17 February 2018.

When it's gone, it's gone
Don't make me suffer for that
Just to love me
A final dividend
Between the hurt and the tell of song
Between the flesh and the fondest wrong
Where the real and the dream may consummate
Oh the sweetest spot
When it's gone, it's gone
Don't make me suffer for that
Just to love me
A final dividend
Between the wound and end
Between the break and the mend
Between the world and the get
Between bone dry and the dripping wet
It's in the holy ghost of air
Between two hands held in prayer
There is a gardless state
Where the real and the dream may consummate
Oh the sweetest spot
When it's gone, it's gone
Don't make me suffer for that
Just to love me
A final dividend
The song "Sweet Spot" by Wild Beasts is a poignant exploration of the fleeting moments of pleasure and relief that we experience in life. The lyrics describe the "sweetest spot" in between two contrasting states, such as hurt and joy or the real and the dream. This spot is elusive and can disappear in a moment, and the singer pleads with the listener not to make him suffer for wanting to experience it. Despite its transience, the sweet spot is highly desirable, and the singer likens it to a final dividend - a reward that is worth it even if it is brief.
The chorus of the song is repeated throughout, emphasizing the urgency and importance of the sweet spot. The verses delve deeper into the nature of this elusive state, describing it as a "gardless" state where anything can happen, and where the line between reality and imagination is blurred. The lyrics use vivid imagery, such as "between bone dry and the dripping wet" and "between two hands held in prayer," to convey the sense of duality and anticipation that accompanies the sweet spot.
Overall, "Sweet Spot" is a thought-provoking and introspective song that encourages the listener to consider the fleeting moments of joy and peace that we experience in life, and to savor them while they last.
