Talk To Me
Wild Orchids Lyrics

Is this more than attraction that we both are dealing with
And is it in the cards that we stay together
I recognize the odds against it lasting forever
There's a message that you're sending
I can see it in your eyes
But I don't know what you're thinking
If you want to make tonight a sensation
I can be inspired with some verbal persuasion
Talk to me
Tell me what's on your mind
Talk to me
What are you feeling inside
Talk to me
What are you thinking of
Talk to me
Tonight about love
Come and talk to me my baby
Come and talk to me
Hey hold me right up against you
Cause when we're dancing close I seem to lose my defenses
Just whisper in my ear what's going on inside you
I just want to hear if you're feeling like I do
Open up your heart there's nothing I want more
Be as free with your mind as your body on the dance floor
Don't keep it to yourself just improvise
You should know by now I'm not into the silent type
Talk to me
Tell me what's on your mind
Talk to me
What are you feeling inside
Talk to me
What are you thinking of
Talk to me
Tonight about love
The opening lines of "Talk to Me" by Wild Orchid raise lots of questions about communication, relationships and the nature of attraction. The singer expresses uncertainty about their mutual feelings and the possibility of a lasting connection. Rather than relying on speculation or assumptions, the singer invites the other person to share their thoughts and emotions openly, indicating a willingness to listen and engage with the other person. The lyrics suggest a desire for greater intimacy, vulnerability and understanding, with a hint of playful flirtation thrown in for good measure.
The next section reveals another layer of ambiguity and confusion as the singer tries to decipher the other person's nonverbal cues. Although they can "see" the other's message in their eyes, they are unable to discern their thoughts or feelings with certainty. This reinforces the importance of honest and direct communication in relationships, as well as the challenges of interpreting and decoding body language. The invitation for "verbal persuasion" serves as a reminder that words can be powerful tools for connection and seduction.
