Sober
Wiley Ft Daniel Merriweather Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
To come back through that door
I don't do that cause
I don't want her anymore
I don't walk down to the edge
And fall down on my knees
Keep my nose to the wind
[Chorus]
And the road's straight and sober
We're suffering now
Won't you come apart at the seams
And the band's growing older
And the plans, they wear down
And I know we'll never get to sea
On the shore of the banks
We signal with the lights
Lanterns burn with our own
Will flare a thousand nights
Pick up sail, count the coin
The copper and the stone
Fill your belly with fire
And sip the soldier's own
[Chorus]
Yeah I know, we'll never get to sea
The opening lines of the song "Sober" by Wiley Ft. Daniel Merriweather express a sense of closure and finality. The singer of the song, be it Wiley or Merriweather, states that he does not want his ex-partner to return. He has moved on from the relationship and does not wish to revisit it. In the following lines, he asserts his independence and determination to keep moving forward. He does not want to be at the mercy of fate or emotions and chooses to make decisions based on his free will.
The chorus of the song has a melancholic vibe to it, expressing the feeling of being stuck in a rut. The "road's straight and sober," and there is no excitement or adventure in sight. The band is "growing older," and the plans are wearing down, indicating a sense of disillusionment and stagnation. The singer yearns to "come apart at the seams," to break free from the monotony and experience something new. However, he realizes that the ship has sailed, and the goal of reaching the sea, whether literal or figurative, is unattainable.
Overall, "Sober" is an introspective song that deals with themes of closure, independence, and disillusionment. The lyrics express a sense of acceptance, acknowledging that some things are out of our control and that it is better to move on and create our paths rather than wait for the future to unfold.

2009 was the best year out of the years ending in 9.

Yeah I think you're probably right, then 1999, then 1989 with 2019 last. Also as well 1999 and 2009 have the best summer NOWS of those years whereas 1989 and 2019 have the two weakest. 1999 definitely has the weakest spring NOW of those years too and 2019 definitely has the weakest winter one.
