Born in Altamira, Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic, Vargas began his musical studies early, attending the Municipal Academy of Music beginning at age 10. He has been a trumpeter and a vocalist, but has also arranged, composed, and led his band, and is also a producer. He began his career with the band "Wilfrido Vargas y sus Beduinos" by recording his first album in 1974.
During the 1980's he had international commercial success with songs such as: "El Barbarazo", "El Jardinero", "La Medicina", and "El Loco y La Luna" (which was nominated for a Grammy in 1989).
Today Vargas is one of the best-known merengue singers in all Latin America with hit songs such as "El Africano", "Abusadora", "Comejen", "A Mover la Colita" and "El Baile del Perrito".

Wilfredo...Le lleva Las millas a Johnny Ventura a nivel musical; pero el combo show marcó una epoca que hasta la orquesta de salsa de Los 70's querian tener ese estilo es cuestion de gusto.los dos me gustan.

Cuando era deejay en la ciuda de nueva york este era uno de los mas favoritos merenques.Todos se ponian a bailar. Todavia tengo este lp, la version original. Soy boriqua y mi esposa es de quisqueya. le tenemos que agradeser a santo domingo por su gran contribusion a la musica mundial lantina. porque nos dieron el merengue y la bachata.

En 1978 Recuerdo siendo yo niño de 4 años juntos con mis amiguitos del barrio ( ensanche Quisqueya Santo Domingo República Dominicana )
Tarareaabamos el coro de este tema a todo pulmón y bien desafinados
Al no poder pronunciar bien las palabras el coro nos salía así :
