Father Forgive
Will Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We are the fire
Burning higher and higher
Fear our wake of devastation
Hear our hatred elevated
We are the fire of offering

Kindle low furnace of souls,
So as to serve a torch upturned,
Shrouded in bone and bloodlike tears,
Of pure spirit, henceforth pay homage,
This mirror image, the head of Christ,
The serpent's tongue, the beat of bone,
A crimson flow, a virgion vision,
So pale and dreadful, our graven image,
Is this time dead? Children of dust,
So forlorn and so forsaken,
In cloven tongue, this seeming fealure,
Alas lay lifeless fallen cherubs,
To endless years our thoughts stillborn,
The scattered graves our minds will mourn,

These ages past, Heaven forbid,
We of the lower world in mourning.

Overall Meaning

The song "Father Forgive" by Will begins with the metaphorical imagery of fire which symbolizes the destructive force of human nature. The fire is burning higher and higher, representing the way in which our collective hatred and fear can escalate and become all-consuming. The words "fear our wake of devastation" highlights the destructive impact of our actions and feelings towards others. This leads to the elevated hatred that is evident in modern-day society, where everyone seems to be at odds with each other. When the lyrics say "We are the fire of offering", it is a suggestion that this destructive power is what we are giving to the world, as an offering.

The song then turns to the theme of religion, with lyrics invoking themes of sacrifice, redemption, and death. When it says "Kindle low furnace of souls, so as to serve a torch upturned" it is begging for the kindling of our souls to burn bright like a torch, flipped upside down to represent sacrifice. The part where it says "This mirror image, the head of Christ, The serpent's tongue, the beat of bone" seems to be referring to the idea of duality in life. On one hand, there is purity represented by Christ, but there is also evil represented by the serpent's tongue. In the end, death is the great equalizer of all things, and we should all pay homage to it.

@davidboron

when you start to explore these side projects of FLA and SP and the like, first off you need alot of free time to sift though things proper and of course time to digest it all and the other important factor to consider is what you will find may or may not be all that important to many outside the mainstream but it is like finding hidden treasure.jesus christ, this is from what? 1991? i believe.....well none the less, i am pretty certain that these people perfected time travel and didn't tell anyone!. the thing that really strikes me as odd is simply this...when did these people fucking sleep?
