That’s probably least sincere apology I’ve ever heard. I think he was trying to come across as the victim. And I think the reason he took such long pauses in between speech is because he was trying to think of something to say. He didn’t feel any remorse but he still had to make up something to say. I'd always wondered that, two victims made complaints to the police in the late 1990s, one was told it couldn't go to court and the other accuser did get a court case but he wasn't convicted, probably because it came out she'd done a deal with a newspaper where she'd make £25,000 if he'd been convicted.
Even after his convictions in the far east his crimes in the 1970s and 1980s in the UK didn't come to light.
Tv producers were too afraid to make a documentary about Savile while he was alive but once he died and the program came out hundreds of people contacted the police to say they'd been a victim.
I think the police felt bad they hadn't caught Savile while he was alive so they put a lot of money and effort into getting some other abusers in the industry like Glitter. By 2010s the culture had changed but yes you do wonder still why it didn't all come out in 1998.

I think given the number of rockstars/celebrities that got with young girls in the 60s/70s that basically threw themselves at them, he probably could’ve salvaged a lot, furthermore if it was just that, I think he still would’ve maintained a loyal fanbase, since in the case you’re describing, a lot of ‘victims’ can be payed off, integrity and victimhood disappear when they’re offered a pretty penny, however if you’re caught with child 🌽, that’s game over, you’re better off jumping off a building than trying to rebuild any type of life

Every time I would hear his song played at all those sporting events even after this was discovered I would cringe. It might still be getting use at games today for all I know as I haven't been to a live game for a long time. Anyhow it might be owned by somebody else at this point so maybe they don't want to cancel the song because it still makes money for them.
