Ray Of Light
William Orbit/Madonna Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun?
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Faster than the speeding light she's flying
Trying to remember where it all began
She's got herself a little piece of Heaven
Waiting for the time when Earth shall be as one

And I feel like I just got home
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light
Quicker than a ray of light

Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder
Do my tears of mourning sink beneath the sun?
She's got herself a universe gone quickly
For the call of thunder threatens everyone

And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light
Then gone for
Someone else will be there
Through the endless years

She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe
She's got herself a universe

And I feel
And I feel
And I feel like I just got home
And I feel

Quicker than a ray of light she's flying
Quicker than a ray of light I'm flying

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of William Orbit/Madonna's song "Ray of Light" capture a feeling of wonder and amazement. The opening line "Zephyr in the sky at night I wonder" paints an image of a vast, endless sky that fills the singer with a sense of awe. But beneath the wonder, there's a feeling of sadness too. The singer questions whether their "tears of mourning sink beneath the sun," suggesting that there's a sense of loss and grief that they're struggling to overcome.

As the song progresses, the sense of awe and wonder becomes more intense. Madonna sings about a woman who's "faster than the speeding light," who's flying and trying to remember where it all began. This woman has a "little piece of Heaven" waiting for her, and she's waiting for the time when "Earth shall be as one." This suggests a longing for peace, unity, and a sense of interconnectedness with the world around us.

Despite the inherent sadness in the lyrics, there's also a feeling of hopefulness and optimism. The repeated refrain of "And I feel like I just got home" suggests that even amidst the chaos and confusion of life, there are moments of clarity and understanding that make everything feel worthwhile.

Jesus Christ. I knew Madonna + Orbit is heaven, but leaving Orbit go loose on Madonna's tracks without thinking of "what the mass will like" is even better. I can sense how much he liked creating this track. It has so many layers. What a musical genius.

Talanted, brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopper, spectacular, never the same, totally unique, completely not ever been done before, unafraid to refferace or not refference, immaculate, divine, beatified, the Bible of all music ever made in the history of human existence
