William Singe, aged 20, is from Forestville, New South Wales and is the rapper of The Collective. He previously auditioned for The X Factor in season three but only made it to the end of the bootcamp stage when Guy Sebastian sent him home. Singe auditioned for the fourth season singing Justin Bieber's "One Less Lonely Girl" and received positive comments from the judges. Melanie Brown felt that Singe was singing the song just to her, Guy Sebastian called his added rap in the song "crazy", and Ronan Keating said it was a great audition song. Prior to entering The X Factor, Singe worked as a bank teller at the Commonwealth Bank in Dee Why, New South Wales. He was a student at St Augustine's College in Brookvale, New South Wales. Singe cites his father, a singer-songwriter from New Zealand who plays guitar and bass, for his musical beginnings. He began recording music with his father as a child and previously held gigs with him at In Situ, a restaurant and bar in Manly, New South Wales.

You wouldn't want a young brother if I wasn't whippin' this foreign
That's why I came back, top down
You gon have to do more than just (say it)
You gon have to do less when you (do it)
Lil mama you know I (show it)
Always want you to (prove it)
You gon have to do more than just (say it)
You gon have to do less when you (do it)
Lil mama you know I (show it)
You gon need to more than just (prove it)
But I'm not sure that you want me
But I now know
You know I know that this ain't right
Cause you want me cause I got dough
Ever since you walked in inside my foreign, slam my door
You know I know that you been on it
But I been on it, on the low
So let a brother get down on it, yeah
Love when you spin round on it, yeah
Even though a young brother want you
Shawty I promise the truth
And when I come down on it, yeah
You love when I'm down on it, yeah
Fuck around and spend time on it, yeah
That's why I came back top down
You gon have to do more than just (say it)
You gon have to do less when you (do it)
Lil mama you know I (show it)
Always want you to (prove it)
You gon have to do more than just (say it)
You gon have to do less when you (do it)
Lil mama you know I (show it)
You gon need to more than just (prove it)
And you know, you know
And you know, in this foreign car let it go
And you know, you know
And you know, in this foreign car let it go
Say it
Do it
Show it
Prove it
Say it
Do it
Show it, babe
Prove it
The overall message of Shake It Off by William Singe is about honesty and transparency in a relationship, especially when it comes to material possessions. Singe puts forth the idea that he is aware that his partner may be with him only for his wealth and material possessions, but he is willing to forgive this superficial reason for being in a relationship if his partner can prove her love in other ways. He repeats the line "You gon have to do more than just (say it)/You gon have to do less when you (do it)/Lil mama you know I (show it)/Always want you to (prove it)" throughout the song to emphasize that words without action are meaningless, and his partner must take action to demonstrate her love and commitment.
Singe also acknowledges that he has his own doubts about the relationship, as he says, "But I'm not sure that you want me." It seems that both partners are aware that the relationship may be lacking in deeper meaning and mutual affection, as Singe says, "You know I know that this ain't right/Cause you want me cause I got dough." However, they continue to engage in a physical relationship, as seen in the lines "Love when you spin round on it, yeah/Fuck around and spend time on it, yeah."
Overall, Shake It Off by William Singe portrays a relationship that is lacking in true affection and trust, but both partners continue to engage in a physical relationship regardless. Singe emphasizes the importance of honesty and taking action to prove one's love, rather than simply saying the words without follow-through.
