Morning
William Wild Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I can see the sun, I can see the day,
Crawling closer as the night fades away.
I can feel the light, shining down on me,
Oh Lord, I better go back to sleep.

Every morning I get so confused on what I'm supposed to do,
And I don't know who you've become,
Or who to talk to anymore.

I fell in love when I was seventeen,
Never learned to be alone.
And I broke away from everything I need,
And I'll never be the same,
At the bottom of a sea without a line.

I'll be the first to go and you'll be the last to leave,
But I'm sure we'll work it out.
And I'm tired of getting old without a single dime to show,
But I can't keep worryin' about it.
And I've got a lot to say, but it comes out the wrong way,
So I keep on writing songs.
I don't know at all where I'm gonna be this fall…but I'll be there anyways.

I fell in love when I was seventeen,
Never learned to be alone.
And I broke away from everything I need,

And I'll never be the same,
At the bottom of a sea without a line.

Overall Meaning

William Wild's song Morning reflects the confusion and uncertainty that one feels about their life in general. The song begins with the singer waking up to the morning light and feeling overwhelmed with the simple act of existing. They express their hesitation to get out of bed and face the world, seeking refuge in sleep.

As the song progresses, the singer delves into the deeper issues that have been plaguing them. They feel lost and disconnected, unsure of what they are supposed to do with their life. They express their frustration with their inability to communicate with others, feeling alone and disconnected.

The chorus is a melancholic reflection on the singer's past, specifically their first love. They lament their rushed decisions and their inability to be independent, a theme that weaves itself through the song. They recognize that their actions have changed them irreparably and that they are now adrift in their own life, without any direction or semblance of purpose.

The song ends with the singer acknowledging that they have a lot to say, but it never comes out right. They find solace in writing songs, but still remain unsure of where they are headed. Morning is a powerful and emotional song about the human experience, and the struggles we all face as we navigate our way through life.

I'm so in love with this song. Ever since the first time I heard it when it was on Indie Air for a while I haven't been able to stop listening. Your voice has that older classic quality to it and this song reminds me so much of stuff from the past. I love it.
