I struggled with alcoholism most of my life. I've always loved country music, but when I first heard Hank and his story, it hit me like a freight train. My grandpa absolutely loved this song. He would get excited when his pastor sang this during worship. Several hours before he died this summer he asked his pastor to come to his house and sing some of his favorite gospels. You could tell it was his time and he was struggling, but he managed to open his eyes and smile for a few seconds when this started playing. My 4 year old was sitting there and started to sing along.

I go to a very modern church with my family. We’ve only been going there a little over a year and since I’ve been going there I’ve felt out of touch with my religion and felt horrible because I didn’t know why. My grandfather was a huge fan of older Christian music like this. I remember staying the night with him on weekends and going to church with him on Sunday mornings. Not knowing who's song this was it was on his mix tape, listening to it today brought back happy memories of me and my papa. I'm 33 years old, and he passed away in 2018. I had the biggest little girl crush on Hank Sr. It wasn't until I was around 10 or 11 that I found out he had died less than 10 years before I was even born. I cried for several days after finding out. We had 2 Hank Sr. albums that I played for decades until they were so scratchy you couldn't ignore it. I kept them until giving them, along with an enormous amount of records away in 2009.
