I Saw The Light
Williams Hank Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wandered so aimless, life filled with sin
I wouldn't let my dear savior in
Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

Just like a blind man, I wandered along
Worries and fears I claimed for my own
Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night
Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I was a fool to wander and stray
For straight is the gate and narrows the way
Now I have traded the wrong for the right
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

I saw the light, I saw the light
No more darkness, no more night

Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight
Praise the Lord, I saw the light

Overall Meaning

The song "I Saw the Light" by Hank Williams is a gospel song that tells the story of the singer's spiritual awakening. It starts with him describing his life as aimless and sinful, not letting his Savior, Jesus Christ, into his life. However, one night, Jesus came to him like a stranger and showed him the light. This light represented salvation and the singer's newfound happiness with no more darkness or sorrow in his life.

The second verse compares the singer's previous state to that of a blind man, wandering along with worries and fears. But just as the blind man in the Bible received his sight from God, the singer saw the light and found his way back to the right path. The third verse acknowledges the singer's mistake in wandering and straying from the righteous path, but he has now traded the wrong for the right and praises the Lord for showing him the light.

The repetition of the chorus emphasizes the singer's joy and relief in his newfound faith. Overall, the song communicates a message of hope and redemption, encouraging listeners to follow the narrow but rewarding path of righteousness.

@@tigercat73 Thank you so much.
What do you think of this?
I've been sharing this this morning.

" If you love Me, keep My Commandments " Jn.14:15

Those who bring their petitions to God, claiming His promise while they do not comply with the conditions, insult Jehovah.

They bring the name of Christ as their authority for the fulfillment of the promise, but they do not those things that would show faith in Christ and love for Him....We present to God His promises, and ask Him to fulfill them, when by so doing He would dishonor His own name.

I struggled with alcoholism most of my life. I've always loved country music, but when I first heard Hank and his story, it hit me like a freight train. I never cried so hard, so I came back to this song and I prayed so hard to let the good lord give me a second chance in life, and I am 5 days sober, and I have NO intention of slipping back with Hank and God by my side. Praise the Lord, I saw the light
