Tore Down
Willie Dixon & Johnny Winter Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Oww!

You know I'm all, all tore down
I'm all tore down, yeah
I'm standing up tall
With my back flat on the ground

You know I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down, yeah
Somebody tell the world to stop
Or just slow down

[Instrumental]

You know I never had nobody
Don't fool around with me
And now here come the whole world's army
Kicking me in the teeth

That's why I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down, yeah
I'm standing up tall
With my back flat on the ground

You know I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down
Somebody tell the world to stop
Or just slow down

Get down!

You know I went out to buy me a bottle
And try to soothe the pain
Before I left the cashier
He was f-ing me about the change

That's why I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down, yeah

I'm standing up tall
With my back flat on the ground

Yeah, all tore down
I'm all tore down, yeah
Somebody tell the world to stop
Or just slow down

Slow down!

Yeah!

[Instrumental]

I went home to sip my supper
And have me a peaceful night
But there at home was the roller's own
With my rantin' ravin' wife

That's why I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down
I'm standing up tall
With my back flat on the ground

Wooh, I'm all tore down
I'm all tore down
Somebody tell the world to stop
Or just slow down

[Instrumental]

Do it!
Get down!
Huh!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Willie Dixon & Johnny Winter's song "Tore Down" tell the story of someone who is at the end of their rope. They are "all tore down," beaten and broken by a run of bad luck and cruel treatment at the hands of others. The singer sings about feeling isolated and alone, with "nobody" to turn to for help. The world seems to be against them, and they can only stand tall while lying flat on the ground. Despite this bleak outlook, the song suggests that things could slow down or stop altogether if someone could just intervene and make things right.

The lyrics are raw and emotional, reflecting the harsh realities of life for many people. The singer's struggles with addiction and relationship issues are common themes in the blues, and the imagery of being "all tore down" is a powerful metaphor for how difficult it can be to find hope in the face of hardship. The song's instrumentation is equally powerful, with a driving beat and wailing guitar solos that mirror the intensity of the lyrics.

listen to what Willie Dixon says about Johnny Winter. Calling him the greatest blues player in the world. Any one who knows music, should know Winter was the best. Mick Jagger and Keith Richards said Johnny was better then all those Chicago blues players. I feel many big artist did not hype Johnny as a player because they did not want to blow him up more then the fans did. Brian Jones was a big fan of Johnny`s first album. That is why the Stones played "Im Your and Your Hers" at Brian`s memorial show in Hyde Park in 1969. Johnny was a big Stones fan, he was amazed by there song writing. Johnny was amazing in the 1970`s. Listen to Highway 51 on Captured live. His slide playing is just incredible. I find it amazing of bands that got into the Rock n Crap Hall of fame before Johnny, As well as Jaco,, Rory, Alvin, Roy and many others. But they let in Janet Jackson, yeah Shes a real rock n roller. It is all about money. Any one with balls would hand in there award and get removed from this bogus and shame of a H.O.F., I would think Neil Young who was serious about music. Should be the first to do it. Thanks You
