Drank Too Much
Willie Jones Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Friday, party
Lights low, Jim Beam
I saw you, you saw me
I'm bossed up 'cause I had a couple drinks
We talked
We danced
Slipped off from my friends now
We're gettin close in the back of ya Jeep
Girl, you're way out of my league

Good thing that I drank too much
Took a shot, went and got it off my chest
Glad I didn't think too much
Getting shot down wasn't running through my head
It was that black dress, brown eyes
Red lips, blue light
Girl, I gotta get me a kiss
Lucky me, I tipped my cup 'fore you showed up
Good thing that I drank too much
Good thing that I drank too much

Wake up
Head's hurting
But she's lookin' so perfect
Good lovin', no I don't deserve it
Makin' this hangover worth it

Good thing that I drank too much
Took a shot, went and got it off my chest
Glad I didn't think too much
Getting shot down wasn't running through my head
It was that black dress, brown eyes
Red lips, blue light
Girl, I gotta get me a kiss
Lucky me, I tipped my cup 'fore you showed up
Good thing that I drank too much

Good thing they were pouring them drinks too strong
Now my heart's like my head, just a little bit gone

Good thing that I drank too much
I took a shot went and got it off my chest
Glad I didn't think too much
Getting shot down wasn't running through my head
It was that black dress, brown eyes
Red lips, blue light
Girl, I gotta get me a kiss
Lucky me, I tipped my cup 'fore you showed up
Good thing that I drank too much
Good thing that I drank too much

Oh, oh, oh
Good thing that I drank too much

Overall Meaning

Willie Jones's song "Drank Too Much" tells the story of a man who meets a woman at a party, gets drunk, and ends up hooking up with her in the back of her jeep. They wake up the next day with him having a hangover, but he finds her even more perfect than he did the night before. He believes that drinking too much was the reason why he was able to have the courage to go after her and tell her how he felt. He feels extremely lucky to have met her and kissed her.

The lyrics capture the moment when the singer is free from his inhibitions and is emboldened to take a shot at a beautiful woman he thinks is out of his league. The line, "Good thing that I drank too much, took a shot, went and got it off my chest," shows that he would not have had the guts to speak to her if he wasn't intoxicated. The chorus of the song, "Good thing that I drank too much," shows how the singer attributes his success in getting with the girl to his ability to let loose and loosen up his inhibitions.

This song highlights how alcohol can sometimes serve as a confidence booster, a fact many people can relate to. The lyrics show how sometimes people need to loosen up to live in the moment and take risks in both romantic and other aspects of their lives.

Huh?

I know right? Most artists have those few really good songs that everyone loves but their other songs are nowhere up to par. It's a different story with this guy, this is the jackpot haha :]

Sounding good bud! Ive met your mom and dad btw. Before I moved from Shreveport to Virginia. Have no idea how much my mom appreciated their help with getting her house ready to sell. Or how much I appreciate them holding hands with me and praying for me on my move here, I had a job the day I landed here. Stay safe and you do your thing man, you are blowing up.

I was fortunate enough to meet his parents, too. They're amazing people. Super nice, too. Willie was kind enough to sing at my dad's birthday party in 2016 and he had already been on X Factor, receiving global recognition. My mom didn't let us know that she'd hired him. The song that he sang on X Factor was my dad's favorite Willie Jones song at the time. So, the song starts to play and Willie walks in singing. Everybody went crazy!!! We had so much fun. My little nephew couldn't believe it was really him. He asked if Willie were "the real guy" or someone who looked like him...lol. His appearance and performance is still a big story to tell in our family. Willie also took a moment to speak with my dad and wish him a happy birthday. He is a cool guy. Glad your move went well, by the way, and you secured employment quickly.

I've been listening to country since I was a kid, but I haven't liked it as much over the past few years. It's been getting a bit stale, but this album...it's got me excited about country again. Setting the bar high, Willie!
