Crazy
Willie Nelson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'm crazy, crazy for feeling so lonely
I'm crazy crazy for feeling so blue
I knew that you'd love me as long as you wanted
And then some day you'd leave me for somebody new

Worry, why do I let myself worry
Wondering what in the world did I do
I'm crazy for thinking that my love could hold you
I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you

I'm crazy for thinking that my love could hold you

I'm crazy for trying and crazy for crying
And I'm crazy for loving you

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Crazy" by Willie Nelson express the pain and heartbreak of a person who is deeply in love with someone who doesn't feel the same way. It's a song about unrequited love and the feeling of being crazy for holding onto something that is not meant to be. The first verse begins with the singer admitting to his loneliness and sadness, acknowledging that he is "crazy" for feeling this way. He knows that the person he loves will eventually leave him for someone else, despite their temporary affection towards him. In the second verse, he wonders about what he did wrong that could have prevented this outcome. He feels like he's lost his mind for believing that his love could have changed the other person's mind. The chorus repeats the same sentiment, amplifying the pain and desperation felt by the singer.

He is one of the few whose voice has gotten drastically BETTER with age. He's quite a guy! Tipping my hat to you Willie. Keep on singing and don't ever quit!

@francoaste3530

Totally agree.

@XCodeHelpHub

In this song Willie probably wrote the greatest heartache song of all time. It is amazing to hear how his singing voice developed over the years, you can hear it in this song.  He learned phrasing, and how to move the mic around to produce subtle changes in volume.

@rubbersoul8334

yes I just played his original studio version & this back to back and I prefer this one. While his voice was good when he was young, it definitely got better with age. Terrific talent.

@itsmommy100

I just did the same and agree with you.

He wrote this at 19 for Patsy Cline. It never ceases to give me goose bumps. Dear Lord. Please keep Willie safe from harm as he is one of our Country's greatest treasures. Has his own dispensary now, in CO.

@wmcc1987

he wrote this at 19 yes.. for patsy cline no. he almost sold a few of his classics to a singer for 50 bucks when he was broke, the singer said these are hit songs, your hit songs. I won't buy them but here's the 50 bucks you need. Wasn't untilj he was in a pub drinking with patsys husband and they got to playing and singing, Willie sang a few and when he heard crazy, he said we gotta go let patsy hear this (around1am) they went back to patsys house and Willie sat in the car because he thought patsy was gonna be pissed, she wasn't they asked him in he sang it, she loved it and the rest is history

ps if you like Willie and want to learn a little about him I'd recommend buying Willie nelson: it's a long story. been out a while now so it's quite cheap on ebay
