Don't Think Twice It's All Right
Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard Lyrics
Well, ain't no use sitting wonder why, babe
If you, don't know by now
Ain't no use sitting wonder why, babe
It'll never do anyhow
When your rooster, calls at the break of dawn
Look out your window, and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm travelling on
Don't think twice, it's alright
Ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
There ain't no use turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
I wish there was something you could do, or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyways
So, don't think twice, it's alright
So it ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
Ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm thinking and wondering, walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I'm told
Give her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right
I'm walking down that long, lonesome road, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye is too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't saying that you treated me unkind
You could have done better, but I don't mind
You just sort of wasted my precious time
So, don't think twice, it's all right
Don't think twice, it's all right
Don't think twice, it's all right

Pioneers of Texas Country music, they pretty much told Nashville that they could kiss their ass and came to be called Outlaw Country ever since. I recall Waylon in an interview (70's) regarding him not bending to Nashvilles' will, and he said something to the effect that he and Willie Nelson could go to Texas, play Houston, Dallas, Austin, and El Paso one weekend nite a month for as long as they cared to.... and still have more money than they could spend.

Well, it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
Even you don't know by now
And it ain't no use to sit and wonder why, babe
It'll never do somehow
When your rooster crows at the break of dawn
Look out your window, and I'll be gone
You're the reason I'm a-traveling on
But don't think twice, it's all right.
And It ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
The light I never knowed
And it ain't no use in turning on your light, babe
I'm on the dark side of the road
But I wish there was somethin' you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
But we never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right.
So It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
Like you never done before
And It ain't no use in calling out my name, gal
I can't hear you any more
I'm a-thinking and a-wonderin' walking down the road
I once loved a woman, a child I am told
I gave her my heart but she wanted my soul
But don't think twice, it's all right.
So long honey, baby
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Goodbye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't a-saying you treated me unkind
You could have done better but I don't mind
You just kinda wasted my precious time
But don't think twice, it's all right.

Such a great song and great rendition by the two really greats of country music! I just put it on "loop" and have had it playing in the background all day. I'll probably do the same tomorrow!

And that was BEFORE the plague. I hope you're going OK. From Katoomba in lockdown. PS When 'Murder Most Foul' came out I listened four times the first night, four times the second night... Might just play it again now.

Love this sound, the guitars sure are clear... everything is perfect here. Oh and the vocals ? More than fabulous.

Two of the greatest performing and just listen to the background guitars, unreal C&W at it's best. And those who voted down, don't know a damned thing about music. This is at the top of the charts, fantastic. RIP Merle, you were in our hearts always with your very great talent.
