Marmalade hair
She is coming, I know she's here
She is coming, I feel her near
She's coming closer, what can I do?
My feet won't move, they're stuck like glue
Shall I say goodbye?
Shall I say so long?
I may be wrong, I think I'm right
She'll give in tonight
She is quiet and blushes see
She looks so pretty and she sees me
I wish she wouldn't cause it makes it worse
'Cause when I touch her, she stops me in hers
Shall I say goodbye?
Shall I say so long?
I may be wrong, I think I'm right
She'll give in tonight
(Look at that girl)
Marmalade hair, marmalade hair
Marmalade hair, marmalade hair
The song "Marmalade Hair" by Wimple Winch appears to be an ode to a beautiful girl with bright orange hair, referred to as "marmalade hair" in the lyrics. The singer seems to be infatuated with her and anxiously awaits her arrival, feeling her presence before seeing her. The lyrics suggest that she is quiet and shy, blushing when he looks at her, and that touching her causes her to freeze up.
The chorus of the song repeatedly mentions "shalls" and "mights," suggesting that the singer is unsure of how to approach the situation. He wonders if he should say goodbye or stick around, unsure if he is wasting his time or if she will eventually give in to him. The repetition of the phrase "she'll give in tonight" suggests a sense of confidence but also a desperation.
Overall, the song seems to capture the exhilarating yet nerve-wracking experience of falling for someone and trying to navigate the uncertain waters of a potential romantic relationship, especially when the object of one's affection seems hesitant or unattainable.

one of the most amazing bands to come out of the rubbles series that highlighted late 60s early 70s psyche. amazing how many bands fall through the cracks, my 2 faves have to be "marmalade hair" and "lollipop minds". "tracy took a trip" by the executive is yet another gem from that rubble collection.
