Wine's aura is distinctively English. Winer sticks to melancholy, shoe-gazing pop which has always been more of a British phenomenon.
Kinks were the first and, probably, the greatest Winer's influence. And His Nasal Majesty Ray Davies still remains some kind of a Godfather for Winer.
Poetically Alex Winer continues traditions of so-called "Miserable Rock", established as a style by Steven Patrick Morrissey. Less pretentious and definitely uglier than his inspirer, Winer seems to be more adequate to the story of an ugly boy next door no girl or a boy would kiss. "Morrissey has taught me to avoid writing lyrics in a usual pop way" - says Winer.
Despite his manic tendency to absorb the ideas of the past, Winer and his music could be hardly classified. Outward simplicity turns into a trap. Going deeper one reveals a number of internal disguised levels, a maze of ambiguities and turned-over quotations. A frightening journey through the jungle of a human being's inner world turns into self-irony, water turns into wine. Vice Versa.
The seething whirl where britpop, Flower Power, Trip-Hop and Big Beat merge. A cool mix of emotions and styles where all feelings are equal, but the only one predominates. This is Love. And in love all contradictions dissolve and disappear.

Girl I Love
Wine Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I don't want you to work all day
But I want you to be true
And I just wanna make love to you
Love to you, ooh, ooh
Love to you
I don't want to keep you indoors
There is nothing for you to do
But keep me making love to you
Love to you, ooh, ooh
Love to you
And I can tell by the way you walk that walk
I can hear by the way you talk that talk
And I can know by the way you treat your girl
That I can give you all the lovin' in the whole wide world
All I wanna do is make your bread
Just to make sure you're well fed
I don't want you sad and blue
And I just wanna make love to you
Love to you, ooh, ooh
Love to you, ooh
And I can tell by the way you walk that walk
And I can hear by the way you talk that talk
And I can know by the way you treat your girl
That I can give you all the lovin' in whole wide world
Oh, all I wanna do, all I wanna do is cook your bread
Just to make sure you're well fed
I don't want you sad and blue
And I just wanna make love to you
Love to you, ooh yeah
Love to you, ooh, ooh
Love to you
The lyrics to Wine's song "Girl I Love" are both intriguing and illuminating. The song seems to focus on a desire to be with someone, but not in the traditional sense that one might expect. Instead, Wine seems to be advocating for a primarily physical relationship, or at least one where he can fulfill the needs of the other person without expecting them to perform any domestic duties or work. He frequently repeats the refrain "love to you," suggesting that his interest in this person is almost entirely based on his desire to make love to them.
At the same time, he also seems to be arguing against traditional patriarchal expectations in relationships. He states that he doesn't want his partner to be a slave, and that he doesn't want them to work all day. Instead, he just wants them to be true to themselves and to him. This could suggest that he is advocating for a relationship that is mutual and based on respect, rather than one where one person dominates the other or feels beholden to them.
Overall, the lyrics to "Girl I Love" present a complex and layered interpretation of what it means to be in a relationship. On one hand, Wine focuses on the physical aspects of love, emphasizing his desire to make love to his partner in a way that is both lustful and tender. On the other hand, he also seems to be advocating for a more equal and respectful relationship, one where both parties are free to be themselves and pursue their own interests without feeling beholden to each other.
