In April 2018, a fortunate encounter led to a tour of Hong Kong and China, where enthusiastic audiences eagerly received them.
Never ones to let the dust settle, the band released their follow-up LP, "Stressor," in March 2019 and embarked on a relentless North American tour until early 2020. The release of "Stressor" along with an extensive tour schedule earned the band a devoted following and resulted in some album tracks being prominently featured on television and Netflix.
During most of their free time in 2020, the band dedicated themselves to writing and recording their phenomenal third full-length record, "Mushroom Death Sex Bummer Party," at The Sugar Shack in London, Ontario, with the assistance of Simon Larochette.
"The record is crazy! We really spent a lot of time getting the songs to sound exactly the way we wanted. I think this is the best stuff we've recorded, and I'm super stoked with the end result!" says Cam.
Wine Lips is composed of Cam Hilborn on guitar and vocals, Aurora Evans on drums, Jordan Sosensky on guitar, and Charlie Weare on bass.
"This new song is a garage-punk sugar rush." – Brooklyn Vegan
"It's pure adrenaline, it's noise, it's intense, it's refreshing, and it feels life-giving. The garage-psych band's new album is, for all intents and purposes, pretty fucking crazy." - Exclaim!
"The song—off the upcoming full-length Mushroom Death Sex Bummer Party—is double-time, turbo-snotty garage rock slimed in gloriously vintage reverb. And, if possible, the video is even greater—a testimony to the power of setting up in a room, turning on the cameras, and then having at ’er." – Georgia Strait
Get Your Money
Wine Lips Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Pinching pennies, ain’t got no money
You got yours, I’ll get mine,
I’m not worried, I got nothing but time
Come and get your money
You got your pay check, you’re getting byYou have a big house, you’re living life
You’re so cool and you’re so funny,
You got no time because you’re slaving for the money
Come and get your money
In the first two lines, the lyrics convey a sense of self-deprecation and humor. The singer acknowledges their own shortcomings, referring to themselves as a "letdown" and stating that others find it amusing. This could imply a lack of success or perhaps a habit of disappointing others. The phrase "pinching pennies, ain't got no money" suggests that the singer may be financially struggling or living a frugal lifestyle.
The next two lines express a sense of confidence and nonchalance. The singer acknowledges that while others may have their own financial stability, they are not concerned about it. The phrase "I got nothing but time" suggests that the singer is willing to wait and work towards their own financial well-being at their own pace. This may indicate a sense of patience and optimism, even in the face of financial challenges.
The repetition of the line "Come and get your money" in both the first and fourth paragraphs can be interpreted in a couple of different ways. Firstly, it could be seen as the singer sarcastically urging someone to retrieve their own money since they are focused on their own financial situation. This could be a way of implying that others should not rely on the singer for financial assistance. Alternatively, the repetition could be an invitation for someone to claim what is rightfully theirs, suggesting that the singer may owe someone money and is encouraging them to collect it.
Moving on to the second paragraph, the lyrics shift the focus onto someone else. Describing this individual as having a stable paycheck and living a comfortable life with a big house, the singer expresses a mixture of admiration and perhaps a hint of jealousy. The line "you're so cool and you're so funny" implies that this individual has qualities that are admired or desired by the singer.
However, the following line adds a contrasting element to the admiration. The phrase "you got no time because you're slaving for the money" suggests that despite their financial stability, this person may be constantly occupied with working and earning money. This could indicate that the singer values a more laid-back and carefree lifestyle over financial success, highlighting a potential difference in priorities. The repetition of the invitation to "Come and get your money" in the final line could once again be seen as either sarcastic or a genuine reminder for this person to take what they have earned.
