Band on the Run
Wings爀 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Stuck inside these four walls
Sent inside forever
Never seeing no one
Nice again like you
Mama you, mama you

If I ever get out of her,
Thought of giving it all away
To a registered charity.
All I need is a pint a day
If I ever get outta here
If we ever get outta of here

Well, the rain exploded with a mighty crash
As we fell into the sun
And the first one said to the second one there
I hope you're having fun

Band on the run, band on the run
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run

Well, the undertaker drew a heavy sigh
Seeing no one else had come
And a bell was ringing in the village square
For the rabbits on the run

Band on the run
Band on the run
And the jailer man and sailor Sam
Were searching every one
For the band on the run
Band on the run

Yeah the band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run
Band on the run

Well, the night was falling as the desert world
Began to settle down.
In the town they're searching for us everywhere
But we never will be found

Band on the run
Band on the run
And the county judge who held a grudge
Will search for evermore
For the band on the run
Band on the run

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wings' song "Band on the Run" tell the story of an escape. The first verse describes someone who is trapped, "stuck inside these four walls," and longing to be reunited with someone they love, "never seeing no one nice again like you." The second verse shows their desire to break free, dreaming of giving away all their possessions to charity and daydreaming about a life with just a pint of beer a day. The rest of the song brings the listener on a journey with the escaped person and their companions as they are chased by law enforcement but ultimately escape into the night.

The chorus, "Band on the Run," is sung multiple times over the course of the song and serves as a rallying cry for the group on the run. The second half of the song includes references to a county judge who holds a grudge and a rabbit hunt taking place in the village square, both adding to the tension and danger felt by the band.

Overall, the song creates a sense of adventure and a longing for freedom. It was a hit single for Wings and has remained popular ever since.

Thank you so much! I bought one of these a few years ago and promptly got it fixed, although my curiosity got the best of me and in the process of trying to figure out how it had been repaired, I broke it again. I sort of let it be for a few years in storage before coming back to it today, and I don't think I would have been able to do it on my own. But yeah, this video was a life safer.

Nelson Watson

Dwayne, these videos are such a treasure! This is Nelson from over in the Antique Typewriter Collectors group on Facebook. I've never seen one of these folding machines actually fold in action. Thanks again!!

Phoenix Typewriter

Thanks for the input, draw band was easy to do on this typewriter
And yes, these folding Corona's are way cool ! Not so user friendly, but they make up for it with the unique design

John Davis

Thank you so much for posting this up, just bought a lovely 1917 example for my wife as a present and realised it had a snapped cable; your very straightforward tutorial really got me out the doghouse. Thanks John

Colin Medicinehorse

Thank you so much! I’m repairing one of these as a gift (two weeks to go). The carriage has fully come off and I can’t figure out how to reattach it. Do you have any advice?

Phoenix Typewriter

I avoid taking carriages off & never had that one off, so I wouldn't know what to tell you to try.
Stick with it, everything is fixable.

Skyler Smith

Thank you so much for the video! I just got my own Corona No.3. I’m having trouble actually getting it to fold over. It doesn’t look like anything is blocking it. Is this a common issue?

Phoenix Typewriter

Yes, these are precision machines, take very little to cause a bind in the mechanism.
This is when experience with mechanical engineering and theory of operation help immensely

Philip Miller

Great Video! Well explained and visualized
