I've Just Seen A Face
Wings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've just seen a face
I can't forget the time or place
Where we just meet
She's just the girl for me
And want all the world to see
We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-m'mmm-mmm

Had it been another day
I might have looked the other way
And I'd have never been aware
But as it is I'll dream of her
Tonight, di-di-di-di'n'di

Falling, yes I am falling
And she keeps calling
Me back again

I have never known
The like of this, I've been alone
And I have missed things
And kept out of sight
But other girls were never quite
Like this, da-da-n'da-da'n'da

Falling, yes I am falling
And she keeps calling
Me back again

Falling, yes I am falling
And she keeps calling
Me back again

I've just seen a face
I can't forget the time or place
Where we just meet
She's just the girl for me
And want all the world to see
We've met, mmm-mmm-mmm-da-da-da

Falling, yes I am falling
And she keeps calling
Me back again
Falling, yes I am falling
And she keeps calling
Me back again
Oh, falling, yes I am falling

And she keeps calling
Me back again

Overall Meaning

The song "I've Just Seen A Face" by Wings is a love song that describes the feeling of meeting someone special for the first time. Paul McCartney, who wrote the song, uses simple but effective lyrics to convey the suddenness and intensity of the moment. The first verse sets the stage, describing the singer's encounter with the girl he's fallen for. He can't forget the time or place they met and feels that she's the girl for him. He can't wait for everyone else to see how perfect they are together.

In the second verse, the singer reflects on how easily he could have missed the moment. If he had looked the other way, he might never have known what he was missing. But as it is, he's dreaming of her and falling more deeply in love every moment. The chorus repeats the refrain "Falling, yes I am falling/ And she keeps calling me back again," emphasizing the irresistible nature of the attraction.

The final verse returns to the initial image of the girl and the singer's desire for the world to see how special she is. The repetition of "Falling, yes I am falling" in the chorus emphasizes the singer's sense of inevitability and his willingness to be swept up in the romance.

Overall, the song emphasizes the transformative power of love and how one encounter with the right person can change everything.

Paul could throw a guitar out the window and have a Number 1 hit. So much talent.

This was from the Beatles help album. I thought John lennon sung it but maybe I’m wrong

I love 2:00 when he says "other girls were never quite like this" while looking at Linda. Even though Paul hadn't met her when he wrote this song, he certainly felt this way when he did meet her.

Nice pickup

As much as I like his current wife I can't see that Paul could feel this strongly about her as he did for Linda 😢

@mercurygirl17

Indeed. I'm sure Linda was aware that this was written about someone else (presumably Jane), and Paul's nod to her is a gracious way of saying "That was then, and this is now."
