Morse Moose and the Grey Goose
Wings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Right On Down At The Bottom Of The Sea
Tell Me Are You Receiving Me?
My Name Is Morse Moose And I'm Calling You
The Grey Goose Was A Steady Boat
People Said She's Never Float
One Night When The Moon Was High
The Grey Goose Flew Away

As We Were Sailing 'Round The Rocks
The Mate Took Out His Compass Box
And Said The Wind Is Like A Fox
But The Grey Goose Flew Away

When Out Upon The Open Sea
The Admiral, The Mate And Me
Prepared To Face Eternity
But The Grey Goose Flew Away

She Flew Into The Stormy Sea
Davy Jones Was Calling Me
But Heading For Tranquility
The Grey Goose Flew Away

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Morse Moose and the Grey Goose by Wings tell a story about a character named Morse Moose who is communicating to someone at the bottom of the sea, asking if they are receiving his signal. Morse Moose seems to be a sailor or someone who is very familiar with boats and ships as he mentions the Grey Goose, a boat that people never thought could float but was actually quite steady. One night when the moon was high, the Grey Goose flew away which is quite unusual for a boat.

The second verse talks about how they were sailing around rocks and the mate took out his compass, explaining that the wind was like a fox. But again, the Grey Goose flew away. The third verse mentions the admiral, the mate, and Morse Moose preparing to face eternity but the Grey Goose flew away. Finally, in the fourth verse, the Grey Goose flew into a stormy sea where Davy Jones was calling, which is a reference to a mythical character who is said to be the spirit of the sea. However, the boat was heading for tranquility and flew away. The song seems to be about sailing and the unexpected twists and turns that come with it.
