I was 14 that year, and I admit that I liked the song when I first heard it. But after only a couple of weeks, I absolutely HATED it because it was played to death on the radio. You couldn't go anywhere in 1976 without hearing it.

Around 1989, I was putting together a cassette from some CDs and LPs I'd borrowed from a coworker. I put on the Speed of Sound album to see what besides Silly Love Songs might be good, but accidentally played that track instead. I guess getting all those years away from it, and having older and wiser ears, I found myself "hearing" it again for the first time and liked it. Didn't love it. Liked it. It went on my mix tape.

Then I was on a long commute through the Sacramento Valley, popped in that mixtape, and out came Silly Love Songs onto my car's mega sound system. OMFG--It was a revelation, hearing it at last with a decent system, with that driving bass, the punchy horns and those soaring harmonies in the vocal bridges. I fell completely in love with the song at last and listen to it often now.

My father’s favorite song. He’d always sing it while playing that bass, and boy how he could play it. Never missed a note when he played the whole song. Devoted his whole career to Paul, Wings, and The Beatles. Dedicated all his love to me and music, and now that he’s not with me anymore, this is more than just a Silly Love Song.

My absolute favorite song of all time! Paul McCartney is still unbelievable! I’ve seen him 3 times and I cry every single time. I’m a daughter to one of the biggest Beatle fans of all time! My Mom went to their first concert in the US in Washington DC when she was in high school. I think my Mom rubbed off on me a bit!

Such a great bass line. When Paul was initially "forced" into playing bass it was the "uncool" instrument and he didn't want to play it; then he became one of the world's most innovative bass players; then the disco era made bass basically the driving force behind the songs and lead guitar faded into the background.

McCartney is a better guitar player than more than 99.% of all other guitar players, anyway. Even though he is known for his bass playing. He was born with a gift for writing and playing music and his dad played in a band and his parents regularly played many types of music in the home. And he and his extended family regularly sang together at family gatherings. There was a piano in his living room, etc. I head him talk about it. He credits that as a big reason why he is so successful. His musical upbringing. Then he had just turned 15 and met 16 year old John Lennon. And John met him. George wa sonly 14 when he started playing with John and Paul.

@CECAR from planet of the apes No, it isn't. Not in the West. For fun, my son and I went through Billboard's top 100 for various years. He got so quiet when the 70s were playing. I thought he was bored. Until I started trashing some of the songs from then that I hated. He was nearly crying when he told me, "Are you kidding? Even your bad songs were good! You want bad, wait till you hear what's coming in the 90s and 2000s!"

He's a musician and vocal coach by the way. Classically trained, but he plays all kinds of modern stuff. He knows music, better than all but a few out there.

Bless you Kimberley. This song takes me back to holidays with my family as a child, music always been a huge thing in my family and i have passed this onto my kids. Last year a dream came true for me. I finally got the chance to walk my daughter down the aisle at the reception, later we had a surprise Dad and daughter dance arranged to Sinatras the way you look tonight. I have never been so nervous in my life, i was pacing up and down, even while my daughter cut her cake, just before the dance. Then all of a sudden, Silly love songs started to play, my daughter clearly had chosen it for me. i turned to look at her, she and everyone else had their backs to me looking at the cake cutting. Then she turned around looking for me and found me at the very back, looked up to where the music was playing, put her hand on her heart and pointed to me. It was as though for that moment we were the only two people in the room, suddenly a wave of emotion flowed through me and my nerves evaporated. We did the dance and in her words, excuse my language "fucking nailed it" That song is unashamedly sentimental and i will always love it.

Musically, that's not called harmony. It's called counterpoint, which is when there are distinct overlapping melodies. It was a prominent feature of baroque music, and Paul McCartney was a master of incorporating it into popular music.

I smile every time the song starts. But then I cry my eyes out when the "I Love You's" start 😢 Not because saying I love you is sad... But because the people that meant the most to me in 1976 are no longer with me. Totally agree, great upper harmonics in that bass line and so warm. Not to mention his voice still cutting through the mix when the horns come in.

This is different from the radio mix I usually hear. Definitely a better mix with the bass up there in the front. Paul being a great bass player, this is a great bass line.

Loved his Cleveland stadium tour in 1990...he was amazing live and one of the rare performers that sounds even better live than on studio albums...today's artists just can't do that especially with lip syncing, karaoking Steve perry's songs, and digitalizing voices...if I could take all of you back to 1990 to experience the concert I would🙂🎶🎧🎙🎶🎺⏳✈
