Spin It On
Wings Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Spin it on, don't stop. Take it back to the top.
'cause I gotwhole lotta love for you
I want to spin it on. Spin it on!
Off to the flicks with the piddle in her nicks, to the fair with her hair in curlers.
Their cousins didn't get all down to the pleasure dome
Their cousins didn't send their night in an aircraft hanger.
Memories . . .!
Spin it on, don't stop. Take it back to the top.
'cause I got whole lotta love for you
That's why I want to spin it on. Spin it on! Spin it on! Spin it on, don't stop. Take it back to the top
'cause I got whole lotta love for you
That's why I want to spin it on. Spin it on!
Off to the fields with a missionary's zeal for the life of the wife of the farmer
Their cousins didn't get all down to the billiard hall
Their cousins didn't spend their time on a pinball table.
Memories . . .!
Spin it on, don't stop. Take it back to the top
'cause I got whole lotta love for you.
I want to spin it on. Spin it on!
Spin it on! Spin it on! I want to spin it on! I want to spin it on!

Spin it on! Don't Stop! Take it back to the top!
'cause I got a whole lotta for you!

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Wings's song Spin It On seem to be about nostalgia and the desire to relive certain experiences. The repeated phrase "spin it on" suggests a desire to keep things moving and to relive happy moments in the past. The specific references to going to the cinema, visiting a fair, playing pool, and playing pinball conjure images of innocent youthful pleasures. The contrasting lines about the singer's cousins not having similar experiences suggest a sense of longing or envy for those happier times.

The verses also feature some tongue-in-cheek references to more adult activities, such as going out with wet underwear and having missionary zeal (perhaps a double entendre?), which add to the playful tone of the song. Overall, the song seems to be about the desire to keep the good times rolling, to not get bogged down by the past, and to keep moving forward with a lotta love for someone or something.

This is it

Spin it on, don’t stop
Take it back to the top
‘Cause I’ve got another lot of love for you
I wanna spin it on
Spin it on

Off to the flicks
With the piddle in the nix
To the fair with her hair in curlers
Her cousin couldn’t get on
Down to the pleasure dome
Her cousin had to spend the night
In an aircraft hanger
Memories

Spin it on, don’t stop
Take it back to the top
‘Cause I’ve got another lot of love for you
That’s why I wanna spin it on
Spin it on
Spin it on

Spin it on

Spin it on, don’t stop
Take it back to the top
‘Cause I’ve got another lot of love for you
That’s why I wanna spin it on

Well off to the field
With a missionary zeal
For the life of the wife of a farmer
Her cousin couldn’t get on down to the village hall
Her cousin had to spend the night
On the pinball table
Memories

Spin it on, don’t stop
Take it back to the top
‘Cause I’ve got another lot of love for you
That’s why I wanna spin it on
Spin it on
Spin it on
Spin it on

I wanna spin it on
Spin it on
I wanna spin it on
Spin it on

Spin it on, don’t stop
Take it back to the top
‘Cause I’ve got another lot of love for you

This has got to be Paul's version of Punk Rock back in the day.

Great tune. Always excites me!

It's a 1979 album, and Paul tries to sound relevant. Funny that his next big hit, coming up, went in an opposite direction completely. He's versatile like that. It's cool.

I worked in a record store when this album came out and we definitely considered it to be his way of showing that he could "Punk out".

Back to the Egg is such an underrated album. GET IT. He's a LEGEND. He's ruined me for...pretty much every other musician. Even his song Mull of Kintyre should be played when I die.

Tony DiMeo

It’s an awesome rock album

Hey Lisa, have you ever thought about the meaning to the lyrics in Getting Closer? On the surface the lyrics seem random, irreverent, & not much of a priority huh? Like most of his lyrics are. That's his schtick, his 'bit', his act. But think about it, what's up w/ the salamander? And the sailors, & who exactly are the Snipers' that the Chattel, oops, I mean cattle, yes that the cattle should be wary of? And who is getting closer, & to what heart is it getting closer to, closing in on? It's actually a very lyrically deep song when you break down the true meaning, & the etymology of each word chosen by Sir Paul while composing it. You might find it a bit shocking when you put it all together. But maybe you won't be. Never the less it should prove to be at least very interesting & has quite a different narrative, then the nonsense it appears to be on the surface. And for the record I too like a large part of this record, despite having a pretty good grasp on the message being told in the other language. Nor am I singling you out to dig deeper, I invite anyone who reads you innocent comment, & my seemingly crazy one. The albums back & front cover art, & title are very prominent in the overall 'message' he's conveying, one he has hidden in plain sight. I hope you check into it & enjoy the knowledge that awaits you. Be well. Out.

LOL! Like your style. Both this and 'London Town' are in my Top 6 post-Beatle (in fact forget the Beatles, I was never a massive fan!!) albums Macca list

got the venyl LP ...my step father gave it to me, I never seen a copy in the wild nor eared any radio play of any tracks (maybe old Siam sir once or twice in the 80s on Montreal's radio). entire album's a masterpiece as far as I'm concern. peace

Jason NYC

Agreed! One of his best and definitely his most underrated album.

Gene Stewart

He was the wild one, turns out. And the brilliant one. Lennon and especially Harrison were world class, but McCartney is just on a level of his own.
